Strap on Air Force 25 - Can it be shortened?

This topic didn't seem to fit comfortably in any forum, but I wanted to get the collective wisdom of NT on the ankle strap on the Air Force 25's. Ijust started wearing a pair that I bought from an outlet, but the ankle strap is too long to actually do anything. Has any found a way to shorten either sideof the strap in order to pull it tighter so that it helps with ankle support?

Maybe the solution would be to add more thickness to the section that goes across the ankle, so that there's extra mass to lock against your ankle?

Gotta say though, on both my pairs i thought the level of support from the ankle strap was decent.
