WASHINGTON -- Stephen Strasburg has a significant tear on the ulnar collateral ligament that probably will require reconstructive Tommy John surgery, the Washington Nationalsannounced Friday.

The star rookie pitcher has had two MRIs since he was removed from Saturday's game at Philadelphia. The initial diagnosis was a strained tendon in his right forearm. But the first MRI raised enough questions for the team to order a more enhanced MRI that was performed Thursday.

Strasburg is scheduled to see Dr. Lewis Yocum.

Strasburg was placed on the 15-day disabled list Monday, the second time he's been on the DL in less than a month.

Kerry Wood says hi.

Horrible news.

Nothing the Nats could have done to prevent it IMO. He wasn't going to get any better in AAA and they couldn't just keep him down there. It is the gift and the curse nowadays, flamethrowers always seem to have injury issues. He's very young so in maybe two years he'll be back to this form? Just look at Liriano having a renaissance season after TJS a couple years back.

Makes you wonder if they'll take it extremely slow with Harper now.

At least we got to see him for a couple months, now it's time to save his arm and move him to a closer like Kerry Wood.

Harper  isn't going to pitch so he'll be brought along as fast as they can so he can help.
if anything they'll bring him up when he's 19-20
