my first job was a summer job at a major insurance company.
they told us that we were gonna be doin manual labor like removing branches from the property and helping remodel the complex.
this place was big as *%%% and it was the first time i been up out the hood. they told us to wear a tee shirt and some jeans.
so i showed up at this place wearin a black tee and some Girbauds and a roca wear jacket. everybody else, including the interns, including the intern who wassuppose to do manual labor like me, wore dress clothes.
all the workers were wearing polos and suits.
i was in there feelin sorry as heck. lookin like i literallyjust came from my corner.
first thing i noticed was how many cubicles there were. i was like
this *%%% is just like Dilbert and Office Space. i CANNOT let my life end up trapped in some cubicle.
i thought that since i was in an office enviroment, that everybody was gonna be stuck up. boy was i wrong. i realized that workers are just people likeeverybody else. they like to goof off, joke, get in trouble, and slack off too.
the job was easy and i got to drive their cars, even though i had no license.
during the tour they took us to this organge wall, it was the only orange wall in the building. as we was walkin toward it im lookin at this guy like
"what is wrong with this dude, i know he dont expect us to walk through walls
"
dude swiped his card AND THE ENTIRE WALL MOVED.
and as soon as the wall moved a mother #%@!!$@ robot came out. i was like what theeeeeee %%@+ is goin on here
the robot was a lil mail cart thingy that traveled all over the building to collect mail. it was guided by some infrared tape under the carpet.
i worked there 3 or 4 times. i worked there last summer and they had me doin actual important insurance work. its REAL EASY for stuff to get lost or messed up.its so frustrating but its easy. its hard cuz of the computer program
i was a scanner. all those insurance papers people fill out, court cases, anything and everything printed on a sheet of paper gets scanned into the computer.
Staples =
also they changed the dress code. now EVERYBODY can where tees, jeans, and tennis shoes. but i stopped after the sec. time i worked there cuz i wanted peopleto respect me more. funny when im wearn a polo dress shirt while my supervisor is wearin some new balances, a tight tee shirt and some levis
