Kiefer Sutherland faces bidding goodbye to Jack Bauer as early as next year -producers are considering axing hit show 24,
Sutherland was recently named the highest earning actor in a drama series by TV Guide magazine, netting $550,000 (£366,600) for every outing as action manBauer.
But programming bosses at America's Fox network admit the show's eighth season could be its last.
TV executive Kevin Reilly tells the New York Post, "It's our last contractual season of 24. There are a lot of moving parts, so we're not surewhat will happen after that.
"It's going to come down to a business decision. It's not an inexpensive show on the network books and we also want to finish strong. This isnot a show we want to prop up... We haven't made any decision whether it's back or not."
