Just because you heard that it can be taken past 72 hours doesn't necessarily mean it will work. I'm pretty sure it's best to have it done as suggested. The sooner the better, obviously.

it only works if the sperm and egg hasn't connected yet. if you a shooter and the sperm got way up in there and it has already connected, it doesn't matter if you take it 5 minutes later, it's not going to work. all the pill does is act as sort of a birth control pill, meaning, it won't let the egg and sperm connect if it hasn't done so already. it won't abort anything that has already formed.
