Tekashi 69 lookin at RICO

. Imagine if we only received 1:30-2:00 songs from the 1990,s/2000,s rappers.
Considering all it took was hook back then (esp when they would record three verses), I dont see anything wrong with it.

2 minutes basically verse+hook+verse+abridged hook. Definitely enough time to showcase talent and skill.

Fathom this...

You have FLOWING rainbow hair
You weigh probably 137 tops
You have a GIANT 69 on you forehead and all over your arms
You look as though youve never even glanced at weights. In life. Not an intimidating figure at all.

And your in Prison... How do you stop Fleece Johnson?

How is it not popular if its generating that much $$$, unless you mean only popular to the under 25 demographic which is a different story, but if it's making that much money it means that it's popular with a lot of ppl. Like I said earlier Lil Wayne dropped Carter V this yearand it did 544k 1st week Worldwide. Eminem Kamikaze 633k 1st week WW. This is new music they're earning from not just touring off their catalogs

1. How much POPULAR music are those old heads putting out?

2. Sure, they are earning large sums of $ but that is duento longevity, not because they are as HOT as up and coming acts

I should have said this from the minute you introduced earnings, we have no way of knowing what is earned from MUSIC and from other endeavors. So we can dead any conversation about earnings

So lets stay on topic.

The conversation is about whether or not Rap music has always been a young man's game.

That's the list for music earning and not counting the other ventures like the Forbes List. Like I said, if Eminem and Wayne are still selling a lot of new music and not just touring off their catalogs like artists that are done making new music

the irony of that man saying “if i was a rapper the caliber of nas/jay/ross/wayne...”

https://kulturehub.com/lil-wayne-nas-beef-rap/

this convo happens to some degree every decade once Pac and them were doing too much to the old heads...

IMO it stems from people not wanting to see **** change from their formative years especially something as crucial to your formative years as the music culture you were into

That link you posted might be the worst article I’ve ever read.
Just came in here to agree with @mastamind033

Didn’t know Treway/Shotti is on this seasons Love And Hip Hop. He was about to be sucking artist dry out here. Makes me wonder how many M,s Suge made off of Pac alone. PAC needed the back up strictly from old beef.

Juelz peaked to way to early in his career. Coming from a day one Dipset fan, it’s burning my soul to see how he turned out.

his emergency bail hearing this wed...paitence...

Bail hearing or not, I dont think he's getting bail. Feds are gonna keep him in and safe to talk. Especially with them knowing theres threats on his life...

To think rappers are getting away with 1:30-2:00 minute songs today is crazy. But it’s due to these young/new internet/social media rap fans. But it’s not just them alone, because it’s really how the internet has changed the way people think and their perception of what’s good or bad by the sheep mentality, add on the short attention span that social media creates in people’s minds from the overdose of material rapidly pushed on a daily basis, then I understood it. When I noticed the 2 minute formula with 1:25 being nothing but a hook. I knew then that rap music was on the decline. It only seems that rappers are doing this format. It’s better for the artists because they don’t have to work as hard at the craft. Imagine if we only received 1:30-2:00 songs from the 1990,s/2000,s rappers.

We expected more from a skill/product point of view compared to now. Everything is quick and microwaved up as a fast cheaper product. Plus, due to the internet, it’s more about an artist selling a lifestyle with their story, compared to if their music is quality like the old days. Everything is about the visuals now because of social media. That’s what the older people fail to recognize. A new artist has to want to do a lot videos/interviews off the rip before the music is really being pushed. Back in the day, your skill level had be up to par to even get connected to the game. The criteria of today, is to be a side show visually with a storyline to intrigue the youngsters, with a lot of visuals, on ig and YouTube, etc. The more antics/drama, the better of a following you can get, the music can be trash, but people will eat it up if it’s catchy, because they’ve bought in to your image/story first, not the music.

The music use to be consumed first, after your music got hot, the visuals came on t.v. Afterwards, then interviews and then your life story. The internet reversed how artist get popular today, and how we consume music. If more people realized this, They wouldn’t hate so much. Cats like 69 recognize this loophole in the game and flourish because of it. This is also why older rappers like Nas don’t release as much material as they use to, and when they do, it’s just a couple of songs. It’s a smart business move. Why would he release a full album with (14-20) 3:00-4:00 songs, when young people don’t even appreciate that (skill level/length of songs) of rap today. If I was a rapper of the caliber of say a Nas/Jay/Ross/Wayne, I would have to be garaunteed $ from the jump to even consider making a full length traditional rap album.

Like the fans would have to pre order at certain percentage for me to even consider it. Because the younger artists are out here caking up with 2:00 minute songs filled with nothing but a hook. While would sit down and pin thought provoking lyrics, when it’s not even appreciated anymore, and the pay for it isn’t even close to what I use to get paid for it. So you have to change with the times. It’s not yesterday, and you can’t think like it’s yesterday.

IDK the only less that two minute songs I see are from dead rappers or album skits when a whole album is streamed. TBH.. unless you telling an actual story which I think you're alluding to with the 90's rap then your song doesn't need to be longer than 3 mins.. In the 90s your record needed to be a certain length.. for show money too.. Think about it you're the tour headliner and all you have is 20 mins of music for an hour long show how is that gonna work

But if you're making hype music then your place is to warm to crowd up .. where 6 three minute songs is perfect..

Instagram and Snap Chat completely changed how life is lived now.. EVERYONE wanna be hot and seem cool.. Now that everyone can rap... make a hot beat in their bedroom and sing mediocre .. ALL that matters be being cool and looking hot.. no one cares about the music..

If you stream on any of the popular platforms.. the teens, young adults and mid to late 20 year olds .. will literally sit staring at a hot person just do regular stuff and if they're talented too.. well back up the brinks truck.
It's not that things are in reverse its that the visuals is the only thing that counts .. unless you have promo money .. .then you use that promo money to make yourself look cool and hot

Man if they got a price on Skittles head ain't no way he getting bail, let's be real.

Man if they got a price on Skittles head ain't no way he getting bail, let's be real.

Let's be real.. he's gonna have to pay for a security detail until the trial. To make money he's gonna need to do shows, make appearances etc.. which in turn means putting the public's safety in danger.

The people who were in charge of his safety is the same people now coming after him... Unless 69 already have a high level attorney talking to him.. that's currently eating away at whatever money he has saved..

You sound silly, b.

All he has to do is let his hair go back to its natural color and he’ll blend right in.
Maybe grow some facial hair and nobody would even notice him.

He's better off in jail. Dude had a price on his head. I feel like the feds are strategically attempting to manipulate him. I feel they're protecting him in a way.
