Is it really that serious. Im sure the younger people in the world are so linked to the internet specially sites like FB and Twitter that they don't know its not that serious (or is it that serious?????)

I just saw one of those attention seeking videos with the post cards flipping through sad music and it turned out the girl killed herself a week after the video. It was due to bullying but it seems like it could have been easy to just turn the computer off or surf something else. I dont get how people could be so attached and have no other outlet in life to express themselves and fiend out who they truly are.

My mind is blown because the girl was bullied through facebook on multiple occasions yet she still came back and continued surfing the site. Maybe its cause I saw the introduction to the internet and know personally that the net can be a very raw and harsh place.

But I cannot wrap my head around the importance of these sites to these kids. If it harms you then why go back on it? Why cant some people just go outside for a bit. its pretty sad that some people cant even interact without other unless they on facebook.

There should be a campaign on TV or something saying "Its not that serious, Its just the internet". This new generation of kids are making me worry about my future kids. When they don't know how to just walk away from danger.

I saw the video and raged at the stupidity of the girl and her actions. Its as if she brought it upon herself but she is a victim nonetheless. Its just I dont see how 1 site could have so much power.

It's crazy if you think about how we are making history through the internet right this instance. Amanda Todd will be forever remembered as a case of cyber bullying and a hopeless soul trapped by terrible people. RIP poor girl.

Cyber bullying is so real. I work with adolescents and it's incredibly scary for me because I'm dealing with something that I don't completely understand.

Yo man internet addiction is real.

No, they're two different things and both are very very real.

what irks me is its like real friendship and one on one interaction doesn't exist no more. Its now referred to as "networking" which is completely self-seeking and you have "followers" that give you likes or comments to validate your existence on this planet. Seems like a total goldmine for insecure females too - she can be "socially proofed" with her brain releasing dopamine into her striatum for every like and comment without her leaving the house; so whats their motivation to go out, carry meaningful conversations, and develop a personality? She (and not just females too) can apparently get more instant gratification without actually putting in an effort by using these social networking sites. Thats why they're so popular and realer than reality for these folks.

I know they are. My father released a short film earlier this year in collab with the police department and school board down here. Eye opening stuff bullying is on a whole 'nother level nowadays.

Yep.

My bad I misread, thought you wrote "you mean internet addiction is real"

Am i the only one who thinks the whole stop bullying approach is useless and the wrong method?

Bullying has happened since the beginning of times, i got bullied, friends, got bullied, we bullied each other. It's otugh and it stings. you're not going to convince kids to accept people for being different and not fitting in.

Personally I think we should work on toughening upt he kids getting bullied, and teaching them how to handle these situations

this is a real sad sad story

i just read an article on this poor girl and saw her video

its a real shame no one could get through to her and save her from her self

where are her parents when shes going through all this

when i was looking at youtube video i can't believe some of the comments i read people where typing after she passe less then 2 days ago
but for the most part people where standing up for her

if this was my sister or daughter and someone pushed her to do this and i found out who it was i would put a bullet in their head

i hope she can finally have peace

in a way, i do agree

I feel sorry for the new generation, they don't understand or value the quality of a true face to face, my voice to your voice conversation. You can tweet, type and text all day long, but you can never convey the emotion expressed through someone's vocals. When someone asks for a apology, thy don't want it written, thy want it spoken because it is a level of sincerity that cannot be duplicated by other means.

But mark my words, real-time social networking will be the next big thing if someone can create the spectrum for it. We all have front facing cameras already, only a matter of time before someone creates a organized platform for a FaceTime-like social network. tinychatXfacebook.

For these people, Facebook & Twitter is the reality. Just take a look at what they post and you'll see.

This **** is their LIFE!

:{ I'm young though and in this generation (or close to), but this is getting out of hand.

qft. that instant gratification and acknowledgement has changed the way most people interact in real life

When our generation got bullied it wasn't at every single turn like it is nowadays though, hear me out. Say someone was giving you **** on your way home from school. Chances are there were a few others that witnessed it and maybe talked about to other students the next day. Nowadays you have kids recording confrontations and uploading it so everyone with web access can view it. Someone can post lies and attacks on an individual through these social network sites and it travels like wildfire. In my day if someone attempted to bully you, you either handled it or you walked with your head down and the bully decided it wasn't worth it. I don't think we can really relate to what this current generation is dealing with. I agree that we should work on toughening the current generation, but it has to be approached a different way.

The people of my generation are such softies.
It's a shame she's dead but that doesn't take away from the fact that the mental toughness of my peers is lacking terribly.
