BONBON Custodio again had little trouble knocking down shots.

Coming off a 19-point effort, Custodio exploded for 34 as Magnolia Ice Cream eliminated Kettle Korn-UST in triple overtime, 133-128, yesterday in the PBL Silver Cup at the Emilio Aguinaldo College Gym.

It was good that Kettle Korn pushed us to the limit, I think were ready for the next phase, said Magnolia coach Koy Banal.

The Spinners will battle fifth-ranked Henkel Sista in the second knockout phase on Thursday.

Sixth-seeded TeleTech and seventh placer Cebuana Lhuillier-Pera Padala will collide in the other pairing.

The Spinners also drew huge efforts from Yousif Aljamal, who finished with 27 points and 13 rebounds, while Jeff Chan added 23 markers.

Nigerian center Sam Ekwe contributed 11 pointsincluding seven in the first extensionon top of 20 rebounds and three blocks.

Kettle Korn-UST ended its maiden campaign winless in 11 games but not after giving Magnolia a big scare.

Pong Escobal rescued Magnolia in regulation by burying a triple with 2.4 seconds left to forge the first extra period at 86.

The Spinners seemed headed for a win after Custodio towed them to a seven-point lead, 108-101, with only 28.6 seconds left in overtime.

Before Custodio started heating up in the fourth period, the Spinners struggled early and fell behind by as many as 11 points, 26-37.

Aljamal sparked a Magnolia rally late in the second quarter for a 46-44 halftime advantage.

The Pop Kings played without coach Pido Jarencio, an assistant for San Miguel in the PBA.

The scores:
