The Bicycle Thread

My lower back usually is in discomfort after around 30 minutes of biking. I have a 61 inch frame and the seat is relatively narrow as im a big dude at 6'3. Any recommendation on changing the saddle , moving the seat forward or down, etc?

You should go to your local bike shop and see what they charge for a professional bike fitting and see if they'll let you test ride some saddles. That's what I did to finally find my right saddle. The one that originally came with my bike was garbage and hurt my butt 10 miles in. But now that I've gotten my bike fitted to me and the right saddle it's been fantastic riding. My seat just disappears on rides and the only thing that hurts is my muscles from fatigue if I'm really pushing.

No. Not yet anyways. They’ve been solid aside from squeaking noise from rain getting in it during the winter. It went away though after some rides.

Finally went out for a ride today. Haven’t been on the road since early March.

Haha. I caught that after I took the photo and figured no one would care. But it’s always the cyclist that point it out.

It’s a 2019 Aria. In light of the new one that is out, I do like this model better with the black graphics. And I even like the Aria over the Oltre but anyone that has an Oltre would just look at my bike and say “oh, you just have the Aria”. Haha.

What is it about the drive side that everyone would prefer to see?

It's the components but I think it's kind of like taking photos of a shoe and you snap the inside of it rather than the outside. I always get it flipped because I tend to carry my bike with my left hand on the handlebars and my right hand on the saddle. I can't like undo it for some reason.

Forgive me for being ignorant to road bikes, but what tier is the Aria within the Bianchi hierarchy?

I had the same issue.... Felt it more so on uphill sections. Turns out my seat was too high and i was overextending.

61 is a big *** frame so you maybe extending too much with your upper body also depending on your stem.

Sounds like a bike fit would be a good look for you.

Components and marketing tend to dictate the heirarchy.

The aria has a ‘classic’ road bike look and geometry.

The oltre is their aero bike. They tend to look a bit more savage and have proprietary parts so are generally priced a little higher.

You can still get a high spec Aria that will **** up your wallet though

I think most of their pros ride the Oltres but Bianchi's most expensive road bike is their Specialissimas. I think the Aria is their entry level pro bike. Still runs you a lot but I think for a lot of pro bikes, it's still on the affordable side. I got mine for about $3K out the door but mine has disk brakes and I think the MSRP at the time for the same model but with rim breaks was $3K. With disk brakes, it should have cost more but I got a floor model that was used at bike shows and it was practically new so I jumped on it.

Can anyone comment on the quality of MAAP or Black Sheep bibs? I’ve been riding Rapha Pro Team Trainers for a while but their bibs suck. Threads begin to unravel at the year mark. Jerseys are quality. I can ride the pro trainers all day and get no saddle sores, so I always find my way back.

I have no experience with the brand, but all i know is that MAAP, PNS, Rapha, etc are way too expensive for my broke *** 🥴

Pitch black down a single track canyon? RIP

The way these companies market their road bikes is confusing. You got an aero bike, a climbing bike , an endurance bike, blah blah blah

Only difference i can see right off the bat is tubing shape and geometry.

$3k ain't bad at all, but i know most people see money differently.

Jumbo Visma rode the Oltre XR4 last year when they were sponsored by Bianchi. Only team in the pro peloton riding this year is Bike Exchange, and it's not a full Celeste paintjob

Isn’t Roubaix happening in the fall? Could be wild if the weather is bad.

how do you take such pics like this? can you give me some pointers? my sister has a nikon d5600 with multiple lens options, but i don't know how to use it to it's full potential

It's a little bit of work to do what I do. I wait till night time to shoot all these photos and do a long exposure using a tripod. I shoot one photo just natural and then a 2nd photo lighting up the bike with a bright LED light. Then I take the two photos and photoshop it all together. It helps if you have something cool to shoot as a background like the metal tree. I usually like something that lights up so it makes the foreground dark which is where you will put the bike on and light it up yourself.

Anybody here uses a cycling computer? I think i'm going to invest in one because the Strava app keeps killing my phone battery on long rides.

Should i go with a wahoo or garmin?

I was thinking about getting one too because I've been using my phone or iwatch to track on Strava and it barely lasts half the ride.

I was thinking of the Garmin Edge 520 since it has GPS turn by turn built in which would be great for me to load routes on
