The College Basketball Post

I'm just dumbfounded at putting Wiggins and McLemore on his list.

Wiggins -- 17.1 PPG, 6 RPG
McLemore -- 15.9 PPG, 5.2 RPG

...but Self screwed them up? C'mon man.

I would agree, on Mclemore, in fact it's clear Self helped him, his BBIQ is horrible and was clearly hidden by selfs simple swing offense.

Wiggins Self def held him back, never played him at Small ball 4, never put him in the post, when they played stanford, didn't play him at 4 and put him at the FT line area.

With the exception of Duke and Kentucky (who are the two best CBB programs with the two best coaches in the country)

Any recruit is "taking a risk" when they go to a different school.

UNC

UCLA

Syracuse

Florida

Texas

Arizona

Michigan State

...have all "screwed up" top recruits. It happens. They get hyped too much. That's on CBB, not the school. Even Kentucky has had some "potential one and dones" that didn't work out as planned.

...look, Self isn't perfect nor the best. I know that. He's (IMO) a top 5 CBB coach and does a great job. Sometimes recruits just don't work out for one reason or another. But, not all of that is on Self. All I'm saying.

Regarding Wiggins, I agree he never played him at the 4. But, everyone praises Cal for getting the UK guys ready for the NBA, which, I agree, is great.

Can't I make the argument that's what Self was doing with Wiggins? He knew Wiggins was a 2/3 in the NBA...so, if he did play him at the 4, he's not "doing his job" and getting him ready for the NBA.

Selden is not Selfs fault, he's just not that good same with xavier Henry.

Ben Mclemore was good at Kansas.
Man, even X was good at KU. (Not great by any means, but a good college player)
X was good at KU can't lie...but I felt like he was held back, like he had so much more to show. It's no different than Ben Howlen while he was in Westwood. Some coaches are great coaches but extremely talented players don't flourish under them bc they preach system while I totally agree with. No knock at all.

I've been telling you guys. outside of the top 1-3 prospects, 5-40 are interchangeable.

Scouts don't have enough time to see all these guys

nah that explanation doesn't work becuase it's not like he was on the perimeter doing things that NBA perimiter players, do like running multipl screen and rolls.

he was doing things bill selfs wings often do and thats swinging the ball, getting it into the post, waiting to get the ball back with floor un balance and then attacking.

also
Cal is advertising him as an NBA development factory, thats not what Self is doing.

Agree 100% with what you said up top.

And fair point. But I do think Wiggins was easily the guy Self gave the most freedom to. Check the 2nd half of games for KU v. Duke, Florida and WVU that year. Unfortunately, for one reason or another, Wiggins didn't do that against Stanford though.

Briscoe is so bad.

Briscoe is so trash

???

He can't shoot, but other than that he's a hell of a player. He averages like 13, 7, and 4 per 40 mins as our 3rd guard. He's also one of the best on ball defenders and best rebounding guards in the country. Just needs to continue working on his shot and cut down on the TOs.

He's a player with flaws, but he's far from trash.

Having ulis Murray and briscoe makes it tough for all of them. Although today I enjoyed watching ulis control everything

I haven't watched much of Kentucky lately

What's with Cal getting ejected at SC? It's happened 2 out of the last 3 games there....
At least he lasted 3 minutes another thing he beat Pitino at 8o

You right he young and crazy overrated.

Memphis might as well hire Penny Hardaway and Georgetown should hire Patrick Ewing.

Nico Clareth is one of the best young MAAC guards I've seen in a while. 20+ a game as soon as next year maybe.

Man, what a freaking win for KU today. Got punched in the mouth by OU at the end of the 1st half and beginning of the 2nd half and responded with flying colors.

Devonte Graham had one of the most memorable/clutch games by a KU player, ever.

27 points, while guarding the POTY, and ran the PG the close the game with Mason fouled out.

Rock Chalk.
