It's the biggest rivalry in college basketball with not a ticket to be found. However, several future Blue Devils will be in attendance when Duke faces North Carolina in Cameron. And, there's also one big recruiting surprise to report...

Having recruited the East Coast and neighboring states so heavily in the classes of 2009 and 2010, the Duke coaching staff has been able to host many of their committed prospects at various games. That will be the case again Wednesday as head coach Mike Krzyzewski and his staff welcome 2010 commitments Tyler Thornton and Josh Hairston to Cameron Indoor.
Joining his future teammates in the stands will be 6-foot-10 McDonald's All-American signee Ryan Kelly who will be making yet another drive from Raleigh to Durham.

While the Cameron Crazies will no doubt welcome their future Blue Devils, there will be yet another target of interest sitting behind the Duke bench when the team comes out of the tunnel. That target will be none other than Ames (IA) small forward Harrison Barnes- the nation's top small forward and number three overall prospect in the class of 2010. Joining Harrison will be his mother and sister. The family will likely arrive at Duke around 1 PM EST.

If it's a surprise to recruitniks that Barnes will be making the journey from Ames, IA to Durham, they are in good company...

Sources confirmed that Barnes' trip is happening without the knowledge of Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski in hopes that his appearance will "surprise" Coach K by showing up in his office this afternoon before the game. The element of surprise is, apparently, the product of Barnes himself.

Barnes will depart Durham tomorrow (Thursday morning) early and head home.

He needs to go ahead and commit tonight.

You're not alone. This is a very important game for 'Cuse tonight heading into this weekend. I expect UConn to win and win big but I want to see theway that we come out tonight as it will probably set the tone for Saturday.

I could care less about Duke/UNC. Its been overrated the last few years IMO.

I just hope Lance is eligible next year so he can prove all of y'all wrong.

He is eligible and no one is denying his talent but he's been a headcase since he was in middle school and his father enabled that. A lot of guys whofollow or are involved with NYC basketball at the HS and AAU level don't **** with his pops because of how he get down.

I give Dook the benefit of the doubt at home. Scheyer balled out last game, Paulus has been playing well and you know how amped he gets those Cameron crazies

This team has not shown me that they can perform in big-time pressure situations. Clemson at home is one thing, Duke @ Cameron is another. Expect Ellington tobe ghost, Lawson to have an extremely mediocre game and for us to barely hang in thanks to Danny and Tyler.

UConn
Duke
Purdue

No one is denying his talent. How is he going to prove people wrong? His attitude is the only way.

To be honest I have no idea. I didn't follow AAU this summer with my dad unofficially retiring from Gauchos. All the kids he helped developand coach are at or going to D1 schools in the fall so he accomplished his goal.

Yes. Its all about the $$$$$$.

We should beat St. John's tonight the way that we've been playing.
Should?

Mick Cronin should be fired if you guys lose by more than 3 tonight.

No further testing was needed on the right ankle of Kentucky's Patrick Patterson. He has a sprained right ankle and last night's X-rays were negative. Patterson is listed as day-to-day.

whew! i couldn't remember, but he suffered that stress fracture in his left ankle last season.

The selections for the Jordan Brand Classic were announced Tuesday night on ESPNU and the shocking news is that both Lance Stephenson and North Carolina-bound guard Dexter Strickland did not make the team.

Thats definitely a shock to say the least

I know right, but it's just the perfect trap game to ruin our NCAA hopes. I try not to get hyped up with the history of Cincinnati sports. KenyonMartin breaks leg in C-USA tournament in a meaningless game when we were the number one team in the country, Carson Palmer tears ACL in the playoffs when wewere owning Pittsburgh that year, Ken Griffey Jr. comes home and has his career ruined, McNamara hits the luckiest 3 pt shot to beat us in the BET and we endup being snubbed from the tourney. Cincinnati has the WORST luck when it comes to sports teams so I try to be optimistic, but not to optimistic.

Rell,
your pops coached with the gauchos?
pimp.gif

so I assume you played ball?

I assume most of us in here played ball?
nerd.gif

Da Come Up I'm pretty sure the Knicks/Jets have more bad luck situations than all of Cincinnati sports

And I played ball for Brooklyn USA back in the day.

True, true.
I expect UNC to demolish Duke.
And Cuse-Conn... Argh... My heart is telling me one thing, but my mind is telling me another.
Going with the mind on this one.

Duke by 14.

Ty Lawson sprains an ankle. Wayne Ellington and Danny Green shoot 5-23. Tyler Hansbrough gets in foul trouble the whole game and only scores 14 points, all ofwhich come from the free throw line.

We have absolutely no chance tonight.

Dukes got this easy.

Cuse get demolished? I don't think so.

Don't forget, this is still a big rivalry.

Though I'd LOVE to see who Boeheim plans to bring off the bench tonight to play the PF/C position.
Thompson Out at St. Benedict's
St. Benedict's Prep will be without its best player going forward after head coach Dan Hurley kicked 6-foot-8 Texas-bound junior Tristan Thompson off the team permanently Tuesday.

"He was kicked off the team for public insubordination," Hurley said Wednesday by phone.

Thompson is the No. 2-ranked power forward and No. 5 overall player in the Class of 2010, according to Rivals.com. He is averaging 19.1 points and 9.6 rebounds.

Asked if Thompson would leave the school, Hurley said: "That' s not my concern. That's the concern of his family and that's the concern of the headmaster. I just know that I'm not going to be his coach and that's about it."

"That's the state of basketball," Hurley added. "The kid came here as an unknown kid with potential and as an intelligent kid who is very likable. The problem in our sport now is that as kids get better and as their ranking rises, the people around these kids ruin them."

Hurley and Thompson apparently had an incident during Tuesday's game against Passaic Tech at St. Benedict's, won by the Gray Bees.

"When you're told to do something on the court, there's an expectation that you will accept the coaching," Hurley said. "He did not a take a swing at a coach or at a player, but when you're told to do something on the court for our team, you take the coaching and you do it. You don't have a response."

The Gray Bees started the year 19-0 before losing back-to-back games to St. Patrick and Mater Dei. Now ranked No. 8 in the RivalsHigh 100 and the USA Today Super 25, their next game is Saturday at 4:30 against Mountain State (West Va.) Academy in the Primetime Shootout in Trenton.

Thompson committed to Texas last year, and his St. Ben's teammate Myck Kabongo recently followed suit. If Thompson leaves the school, it is possible Kabongo would follow him, although that remains unclear at this point.

Ro Russell, Thompson's AAU coach with Grassroots Canada, previously said Thompson could be the "best player ever to come out of Canada." He said Thompson would remain at St. Benedict's through the end of the school year and would then examine his options.

"It's an unfortunate situation that occurred with regards to Tristan no longer being on the St. Benedict's basketball team, but he is still a student at St. Benedict's and will be finishing his academic requirements there," Russell said. "He has nothing but respect and gratitude for Coach Danny Hurley and his athletic staff and coaches. Tristan also maintains a strong relationship with the school master Father Ed [Leahy] as well as the school faculty.

"Tristan and Coach Hurley have had an up-and-down relationship during his time at St. Benedict's, but has always worked hard, competed, and tried his best to represent the program in the highest regard. Unfortunately, they just couldn't see eye-to-eye and that led to the incident at his game [Tuesday] evening. Tristan's intention were to finish his high school career at St. Benedict's but unfortunately that probably won't happen after this high school year.

"Tristan, his family, and myself will sit down in the near future and figure out his next course of action.

"In general, Tristan is fine, he's doing very well in school, is still very much committed to the University of Texas and he has options for next year.

"One of Tristan's possible options could be another high profile private school in the U.S that I'm involved with."
That's crazy....I actually want to know what he did now
