The Combat Jack Show Thread

… the freest nation in the WORLD voted Trump as a president twice… but Redd Foxx and Martin Lawrence:lol :lol :lol

Again, those shows are “reading rainbow” status compared to modern media and entertainment:lol :lol :lol

Look at the state of rap music….

:lol

Ya’ll listen to insane vile music but want to be critical :lol

This part.

This discussion was already had 2 pods ago. Nothing new has been really offered to the topic whether it be info or perspective.

I mostly disagree with what she saying and since it’s Martin of all shows I can’t waste energy arguing it.

I just go back to the common sense solution. If you don’t like it especially if it offends you don’t watch it. Nothing is going to change about a classic black sitcom from almost 30 years ago.

Yeah, my thing is it was 30 years ago, and you can't put 2025 values and morals onto something that was from 1995.

but it's hard to disagree for me. I went to reddit and saw some of the discussion and the examples and was like. Yeah, you got a point and can see how it can be perceived that way 🤷‍♂️

You're really using the two wrongs argument?

How do y'all feel about black men portrayed by Tyler Perry? I'll wait ...

What values and morals have changed since then? People are still wicked evil towards each other.

Bullying is damn near at an all-time high :lol :lol

You understand he’s implemented SEVERAL different kinds?

Shemar Moore and Boris Kodjoe played good guys in his movies..

I’m a bad candidate though because I’m not easily offended.

Being offended by everything means you’re letting the other party have some type of control over…

Also find it weird in todays time that dudes be up in arms about the **** women be spewin on the net. Why do we wanna go back and forth with woman so much about what they feel? I used to feel a type of way to some **** they say but then I just learned to try to see things from their perspective as well as accept that some woman are just gonna say **** sometimes and doesn't deserve to get me riled up

minding that most folk in these conversations are relatively young (under 40) & have come up with cultural messaging wherein egalitarianism is the ethos, and the younger they are the more this is this case...so if men & women are equals, neither should feel a way about entering into discourse that may be/get combative without restraint...obviously this isn't the case tho, men & women alike will defend women speaking any kind of way to & about men but this is not typically the case vice versa (also i think most men tend to be more 'considerate' of how they speak & what words they use with women), which i believe tends to fuel the online back & forth because folk can be & say things they would not be & say in person

but why can't we have our colorism, homophobia, misogyny and racism

It was worse in the 70's.

All those Norman Lear shows form the 70's. I've said for the longest that TV treated the audience like they were smarter back in the 70's. The Jeffersons, Sanford and Son and All In The Family you had to get it, but a lot of it was still offensive.

I watched Three's Company a couple of weeks ago and forgot how wild that was. If I was gay I'd probably feel a way.

A lot of things I do like ayo and pause might seem offensive.

What are y'all talking about? We talking about the Martin show.

So let's be clear because the convo is getting twisted. Y'all think Martin's jokes about Pam was colorism? The jokes about everybody else cool, even on Martin himself but the Pam jokes crossed lines?

It's definitely weird to me. People can't seem to understand that you can't tell people to not be offended at what they find offensive.

We all have different perspectives and experiences. We are looking at it from a male perspective and lived experiences. Those who are offended are looking at it from the lense of a dark skinned black woman. I don't know what it's like navigating life a dark skinned black woman.

I remember the days when dudes used to stay out of these types of convos and women talk in general :lol …Now everybody gotta comment on EVERYTHING and it always unproductive or turns to a vs thing :{

Idk what shorty talking bout but idc either way and if that’s how she feels ain’t gonna argue that she’s wrong, EYE know what I thought and felt watching Martin and that’s all that matters to me

1000000000%

Some segments of the The Chappelle show haven’t aged well to me. Still love the show. Shorty called Bernie Mac a legend, and said some of his jokes just don’t hit the same, for her.

And the internet is…..interneting :{ :lol .

So YOU of all people, who has a list of people who you don't like because of something they said or their beliefs isn't easily offended

Still waiting on a answer cuz we jumping from Martin to shows that was blatantly racist in the 70's to Chappelle.

Archie Bunker was racist AF

… how do you not know that? :rollin :rollin

Dude was slanging the N word around like crazy.

Ironically, Sherman Helmsley got the Jefferson as a spinoff to All in the Family. His character’s originated on AITF

Archie Bunker didn't throw the N word around. George used it on the show.

and if I were finessence finessence I would say you use the N word like that little rap conversation.

and the whole gist of the show was making fun of Archie's racism and he was the butt of the joke. The whole basis of the show was Archie having to change with the changing times.

The shows were a product of their times, much like what is being discussed with Martin and Chappelle show, but I'm sure most of this will go over your heads.

Like not to defend Tyler but for every evil black guy there’s the other good black guy who gets the chick

…. Kind of like when they cast him on IN THE HEAT of the night to change Carol O’Connors image? They even had him dating a black woman on In the heat of the night…..

You probably wouldn’t know though

If Martin or any other comedy from the 90s or ‘00s came on today, the jokes would be different. It just is what it
I agree with this. I just dont think many, if any at all, of those Pam jokes would have been different in nature. So the question then becomes would those hypotheticsl jokes have been deemed as colorist 2050? Who knows...

Mel caught lying again :lol

Women are really careless with these allegations :{

Im usually unbothered by Mel, but she got under my skin during this segment. She was way too charged up and defensive. The otherside did not exist. And she couldn't help herself from bleeding her bias. **** was ******* annoying. If you can't help but be that biased on a topic, your words should be calculated and limited. Ish does it well.
