The Combat Jack Show Thread

That "dudes is groupies for groupies" thing will always be some weird **** to me. Probably one of the only things I can side with Mal on.

Like conceptually, do dudes sit around thinking "I'm up next with that one" while watching these women's instagrams?
Joe's Freddie Gibbs lunch story pretty much confirmed this.

Soon the whole culture, **** men in general, gonna have to have a conversation about men just wanting to impress other men. ****** don’t eem know what they want for themselves. Boys just want to be “respected” and “hated on”.

Joe annoying sometimes. I’m dead tryna hear Rory story about his spiritual ****, and Joe keep interrupting with weak jokes.

Dude is a walking contradiction. It's corny when they step on jokes, and they're all guilty of it, but Joe does it the most.

Yo they def got into it at about 19:28 then cut it as soon as Rory said "Shu...". Either that's never gone see the light of day or it's a patreon thing.

Ok Mal is a disgraceful creature. Today son said that Jay is same level of importance of Malcom X. Malcom, Fred Hampton were all people who were ready and did die for the cause. I don’t even get how you can compare Jay like that, we all love Hov, but they gotta stop.

Jay raps on important topics but end of day he a big time capitalist, which is opposite of the socialist, community support view that malcom or Fred had.

i see why Biggs never gave mal even an internship at the roc, they know son is a dummy

The comparison was off but I’m almost sure that’s not what Mal said.

If i'm trying to shoot Mal bail

The Only way that comparison works is if he's speaking solely on being orator on a large scale to young black men from certain areas.

Outside of that two guys with completely different ideologies & paths.

I think that’s the manor in which he made the comparison. He mentioned using his voice to speak to the masses I believe

:lol::lol::lol:

I still remember Folks was ready to call Kanye the next whatever after his Bush Segment during Katrina. Fast forward to now, hes a Magaman that had some of yall 👀 wearing confederate flag merch and saying slavery was a chose.. What a time

He was saying his voice is stronger and more important, but 50 years later Malcolm is still studied and idolized. I think the people who are drawn to him, were about that life or who want to be activist. Mal is shortsighted as usual.

50 years later are they going to study Jay's lyrics or do like they do like Bob Marley?

I don't think people listen to music to be inspired or educated. I think they listen to be entertained. That's why you have to have a balance. Public Enemy were a platinum selling group in the middle of the crack era. Did they help? Not that they didn't try. Did Night of The Living Baseheads change peoples lives and make them clean up? I don't know. What are the results?

Plus people can't just list to Jay, they're going to be critical.

But from a capitalist standpoint people have been preaching economic empowerment for decades, but the issue is when it comes to one person and not as a collective 🤷‍♂️

and Jay stopped doing the money phone thing, which was symbolic, he doesn't brag about material items like he used to. So he's shown continuous growth.

I don't think Malcolm, Martin, Medgar, Huey, Stockley and any rapper should be in the same sentence...

but maybe activism in 2021 looks different, what do I know.

This has a lot to touch on but a few points stuck out.

1) Will they study Jay's lyrics 50 years down the line..... absolutely guys like him & Nas are some of the best WRITERS in history & their lyrics give first hand accounts of one of the most pivotal eras in black history. A LOT can be learned from Jay lyrics... positive to growth or negative, all depends on how the individual interprets the messaging.

2) I agree that no rapper should be mentioned in the same sentence as those you listed, because those you listed put EVERYTHING on the line for their message & ultimately were killed for there thoughts. With that said there is a huge grey area between Head figure of black activism.... and greedy parasite capitalist & Jay falls in between that line. I can't berate ****** for not wanting to be Martyr's. Everyone Gotta play a role & the entertainers in the black community have always had a part by lending their pockets, connections & voice.

3) That Voice is powerful!! So to link your example, yea P.E might not have been able to stop an epidemic but do you know how many ideas they sparked that helped people choose a better path. Whether that was knowledge of self, whether it was alternate ideologies, even if it led to someone wanting to be a musician etc etc.... all of that helps. Jay's voice Rings louder than P.E and his influence is undeniable in the black community. He's far from the first to speak like this, but he's one of the few who can amplify it at that level & have it resonate with a specific audience.
