Calvin Johnson couldn't have been on his way to GOAT status?

Calvin would have to not just beat all time numbers but destroy them to account for era and the Cooter defense being played by the league due to rules changes. Going across the middle today doesn't carry the same price as it did 10-20 years ago. You see how tears from players and fans flow when Burfict hits anyone. Cooter NFL age we're in.

Sean Taylor really was the last of the dying breed. R.I.P to him and the position being played in that way.

Michael Irvin finished his career with 750 receptions (tied with Charlie Joiner for 30th all-time in the NFL) for 11,904 yards (21st all-time in the NFL) and 65 touchdowns (52nd all-time in the NFL.)

NO STATISTICS IN THE TOP 20 IN ANY MAJOR CATEGORY FOR A RECEIVER!!!!

Calvin Johnson finished his career with 731 receptions ( 43th all-time in the NFL) for 11,619 yards (27st all-time in the NFL) and 83 touchdowns (22nd all-time in the NFL.)

Calvin had 19 fewer receptions, 285 fewer receiving yards, and 18 MORE touchdowns than Irvin in 3 FEWER seasons. 19 receptions & 285 yards is LITERALLY 2 games for Calvin Johnson! 

 

So how is Irvin the GOAT??

....And before you say "oh Irvin has rings", remember you JUST said Barry Sanders was almost GOAT, but he had no rings either, so what's the difference.....

Irvin had 10,256 yards in a 8 year span and had 11 100 yard games in a season (NFL record). While playing with a run heavy offense that featured the NFLs ALL TIME LEADING RUSHER. You gloss over that. He also scored 2 TDs in 18 seconds IN THE SUPER BOWL. A place Calvins never been.

Calvins Lions were pass heavy with 0 running game.

The rules have been relaxed to benefit offenses more now that's true(in part thanks to Indy ) but Irvin was never really as dominant as Calvin

Sounds plausible. How many teams can legit stop our WR core or TE? We have 2 really good corners on defense. Hall will shine at Safety because of his ball hawking skills. We also have a good pass rush from the LB position. Biggest weakness is the defensive line. Special Teams is improved with the addition from Denver in the offseason. Broncos fans have vouched we got a good one. Then there's the savage leader...

We aren't the Browns. We're coming off a division winning season. There are two rookie QBs starting in our division. The one team with a stud at QB team is coming off a all time bad defense season. Not one person can tell me Washington got worst since last year. Yet everyone expects us to stink? That's unrealistic homie. Every time I ask for a realistic breakdown of my team the only two responses are "we didn't beat a team over .500 and last year was a fluke. No one can realistically breakdown why in football terms we can't win the NFC East again.

RG3 was once in a decade type of rookie player. It's funny how people expect Dak to be that or the Giants defense to suddenly be good enough to stop our offense. Without any breakdown on how this is all possible. I provide football reasons.

Being born and raised in DC I see this from Skins fans every other year. ..this year they should realistically win the division tho. Anything other than that IMO is a stretch.

Think there front 7 is terrible which is ok when your playing the Eagles or Cowboys with rookie QBs but the elite teams will feast. They have a division winners schedule this year. 9-10 wins will win the division again
