just listened to dean baldino on nfl network talking about some of the terrible calls from the weekend..
the biggest problem with the league and actually getting calls right is what they believe is public perception of them.. it's like the same way how they deal with domestic violence or players' suspensions for other things, where they reconsider after public reaction
instead of actually addressing what the right call should have been without factoring in the actual call from the official(s), he exemplified the biggest overriding problem the league has with the current system.. they concern themselves too much with what the ref on the field called instead of what the ultimate goal of the system should be, get the damn call right
like with concussions, you need at least a team of people allocated to the sidelines overseeing what the training staffs are doing that have some level of independence and impartiality who aren't directly connected with the teams and thus have a vested interest in that player going back out there

Yeah, I've noticed that this season. Seems like they're trying to stick with whatever the original call on the field was as much as possible this season. Dumb as ****.

I just don't get it though..
we're going see a million and one replays of the play.. most people got pretty decent sized HD TVs
it's in the league's best interest to make sure the call is correct, first and foremost.. not saving the feelings of a bunch of refs
