Many love to suggest that racism has always been around. Well, it wasn't. The concept of race was created by THIS man. His research gave birth to what is called scientific racism,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientific_racism
Racial anthropology, pejoratively also scientific racism  is the use of scientific, or ostensibly[sup] [/sup]scientific, findings and method to investigate differences among the human races, specifically in a historical context of ca. 1880 to 1930.

  • the Caucasian race or white race
  • the Mongolian or yellow race
  • the Malayan or brown race
  • the Negroid, or black race
  • the American or red race.
[th=""] Johann Friedrich Blumenbach [/th]
The concept of race hadn't always been around, until this guy came along and screwed things up royally. Before this, we all were simply human, and our  differences were simply that, differences.

Can we all get back to simply being human?

Eh.

Later in life, Blumenbach encountered in Switzerland "eine zum Verlieben schöne Négresse" ('a negro woman so beautiful to fall in love with'). Further "anatomical study" led him to the conclusion that 'individual Africans differ as much, or even more, from other individual Africans as Europeans differ from Europeans'. Furthermore he concluded that Africans were not inferior to the rest of mankind 'concerning healthy faculties of understanding, excellent natural talents and mental capacities'.[3]

"Finally, I am of opinion that after all these numerous instances I have brought together of negroes of capacity, it would not be difficult to mention entire well-known provinces of Europe, from out of which you would not easily expect to obtain off-hand such good authors, poets, philosophers, and correspondents of the Paris Academy; and on the other hand, there is no so-called savage nation known under the sun which has so much distinguished itself by such examples of perfectibility and original capacity for scientific culture, and thereby attached itself so closely to the most civilized nations of the earth, as the Negro." [4]

These later ideas were far less influential than his earlier assertions with regard to the perceived relative qualities of the different races. His early ideas were adopted by other researchers and encouraged scientific racism.[5] Blumenbach's work was used by many biologists and comparative anatomists in the nineteenth century who were interested in the origin of races: Wells, Lawrence, Prichard, Huxley and William Flower are good examples of his influence on human biology.

Well atleast he corrected himself but yea attempts to justify racism through scientific means has always failed. There is no such thing as the classically defined "races". Africa, the Land of the black man has more genetic diversity than anywhere else on the planet.

Of course he corrected himself, but America and Germany ignored the further findings, then adopted the thought of white racial purity. This "gentleman", opened the door for all to follow.

'eh...indeed.

The concept of race wasn't around but racism and prejudice was around long before that.

How can you have racism, wiithout the concept of race? Does that make any sense to you? If you read, the whole point of developing race as a concept, was to show the differences between humans. In the case of Blumenbach even developed a term for being the most beautiful while being white.

I have a huge dislike for what White people have done, then continue to do to Black people around the world.

This post proves who did it, then why.

Um "racism", as it is defined today hasn't always been around. But other methods of creating a divide between humans based on physical characteristics, culture, religion, etc have been around.

Darker skinned, and generally other skinned, people have been detested from the start of time.

Look at the bible.  Look at the institution of slavery.

Terms like "Moors" and "Negroes" existed centuries before Blumenbach's birth.

People have been killing each other over physical differences for millennia.  He didn't invent racism, he just tried to force a scientific basis behind the misconceptions people already held.
