The Middle East

The other day I was talking among some colleagues and one man stated his opinion on India (more specifically, in his words, towel head land), or the overall Middle East - regarding the amount of poverty, disease, corruption, terrorism, etc, etc. It was clear to me that this man was a racist. His statement was:
"Why don't we just A-Bomb that *%%# hole and start over"

I was RAGE after this... I have very close friends who's families are from the Middle East... but I wasn't about to knock him out or anything. I wanted to have a logical discussion about this - maybe teach him a thing or to. Open his eyes.

The thing is, disturbingly, I was unable to come up with a serious argument aside from basic human rights and equality. I am personally too ignorant about that entire area of the world to argue in favor of their existence. I've never been there to see things first hand. We didn't learn a whole lot about any of it back in school... so I think a good majority of people in my demographic are quite similar to me. 

If someone said that to you, how would you dignify it with a response. What you tell that man to help educate him on his pathetic ignorance.

Anyways, I usually don't get involved in Race/Religion/Nationality threads but to make some quick points regarding why India and the Middle East isn't "worthless" (assuming that's what he meant)

1-India was one of the wealthiest countries before it got taken over by stronger nations, most important of them being England.
2-Egypt (in Africa but considered a Middle Eastern country) was the home of many great advances in Math and Science. There are many formulas and other Mathematical things that were actually created by Egyptians.
3-Obviously the Middle East has oil, but that is only one of many natural resources available in these areas.
4-Not everyone in these nations is poor. Of course the stereotype on TV makes them appear that way. The percentage of poor in these nations may be high, but it's not like 90% of the people are poor. These countries have doctors, lawyers, etc. just like anywhere else.
5-There are many great areas of this world that have a lot of corruption and poverty. Does that mean it should be blown up? Should we blow up countries like Mexico where there is a high rate of crime and drug trafficking to the U.S and a large lower class? Terrorism is obviously worse than drug trafficking but a few criminals living in a certain part of the world shouldn't dictate how that country is treated.

I wanted to say most of this to him but for the highlighted reason I was reluctant. Well said though.
