The MMA Thread: DON'T ASK 4 STREAMS & NO GIFS- Cannonier, Imavov, Reyes, Rosas on NOW

Ehh, Cyborg's BJJ is actually pretty exceptional and that fight was a long time ago. I would wager that Vegas would have Cyborg as the favorite.

I guess Cyborg is going to fight for the 135 title in Invicta and then wants a fight with RR in December. I'm down. Dana make it happen.

"If she stays clean, gets a couple fights at 135, she's healthy, she's safe," White said. "And fights that matter. You don't just get a couple of fights at 135 and come in and step over every girl in the UFC and then get a chance to face Ronda. You know what I mean? It doesn't make a lot of sense." -Dana White

I'm glad @rondarousey won- now I can kick her *** in December - make it happen daddy @danawhite

"Of course I'm interested in it," Rousey said on FOX Sports 1 after her first-round knockout win over Sara McMann. ... "I'm not going anywhere. She knows where I'm at."

I hope this rousey vs cyborg talk is not just another 'superfight that really won't happen'. Dana always talks about it but not one has happened.

Dana has tried though. GSP just didn't want to move up to fight Silva. Silva lost to Weidman but it seemed like he was down to fight Jones if he had beaten Weidman.

Aldo and Pettis was set (if you even want to consider that a superfight)

I wouldn't really consider Cyborg and RR in the same category as what you're referring to, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Cyborg in the UFC by the end of the year if she proved she could fight at 135

Well, aldo vs pettis is the closest we can get to a 'superfight'. One with the highest possibility of happening this year. But I think pettis still isn't cleared to fight(?).

Rousey vs cyborg clearly isn't on the same level as gsp vs silva or silva vs jones. But given the depth of women's mma that, in my opinion, is one of the 'superfights' we can get in terms of battle of skills, ppv draws, and that is what the fans want.

Besides, have you heard some from the ufc, especially joe rogan, refer to rousey as best mma fighter at the present? Maybe not said exactly like that but something that sounds like that. They are really building up ronda. If you won't be surprised that cyborg will be in the ufc by the end of the year, I will not be surprised if the ufc will sell rousey vs cyborg like one of those superfights that we didn't see.

Aldo and Pettis were set to fight a while back at featherweight but Pettis injured his knee

UFC definitely hypes RR way too much but I don't blame them for trying to sell their product.

Also, Dana isn't really selling folks on RR v Cyborg. It's not like he's campaigning for it, so if it doesn't happen it's not like he's giving people false hopes. He was definitely campaigning for GSP v Silva and Silva v Jones. GSP just didn't want to ever move up and Silva got beat twice by Weidman.

Not yet hahaha. It's too early to sell that now because nobody knows if cyborg can really make it to 135. But I get what you're saying.

Meh. We won't see ronda fight for a while so I hope another legitimate contender will come. Mcmann should challenge her again in the future, no herb dean in that fight I hope.

Agree that UFC is hyping up Rousey way too much but interested to see if the hype dies down a little. Early numbers are saying it was pretty average in gate and attendance figures. If RR isn't the UFC's biggest draw like Dana was saying, I wonder how much longer he continues to pour money into marketing her if they're not getting the results they want.

They are building a name to attract an audience to something they otherwise wouldn't care for. Who cared about women's MMA before her? They do it in boxing all the time.

Pic not from tonight
Either way... Either Dana's left arm is long as **** or this is a photoshop.  I'm going with the latter.

:{ We gotta wait until the end of the year to see this fight :{

Man **** TUF. Aldo must be heated right now

It will be worth it if the Diaz bros end up being Gil's coaches.

Agreed though. Love the fight, hate that we have to wait for this bum show to film before we get to see it...

Gil's power play really worked out for him. Not only does he land a title shot but now he's gonna be one of the highest paid fighters in all of mma. Regardless of what he says in the next few days or weeks, you know that Dana isn't happy about it cause they're probably paying him way more than they wanted.

Aldo didn't vacate his title and there were no reports that it was imminent. I don't mind him staying at featherweight because there are several guys that would make for great matches. Mendes rematch, Cub rematch, Diamond etc.

The fact that the fight will be at the end of the year is a crock though. Nobody cares about no TUF

From most of the reports Aldo and his camp were on board for the fight. But recently Dana started down playing it saying that Pettis may not be ready for a July fight.

Aldo always flirts with moving up but he always stays. The latest report was his camp was trying to say that Aldo and Pettis could meet at a catchweight so Aldo wouldn't have to vacate his title. So it's obvious that Aldo wants to move up to 155 eventually but he for sure has a hesitation to vacate. If dude came out and said I vacate my title and Dana didn't make that fight with Pettis then I'd say Aldo would have something to complain about.

I understand from Aldo's perspective if he didn't want to wait on Pettis' health.

Aldo can try a few fights in lightweight before challenging for the title if he really wanted to move up. Aldo won't have to vacate the title then, since anderson has fought a couple of times at LHW and he didn't vacate the middleweight belt. After all, he doesn't have much of a choice since melendez will be fighting pettis next. Unless melendez magically becomes injured and the ufc will insert aldo.

I hope melendez takes the diaz brothers with him in TUF, for extra entertainment hahaha.

Aldo shouldn't have to vacate his title. Dana didn't make BJ vacate to make a fight with GSP.
