The Obama effect

This question is for the Black men here on Niketalk. Since President Obama has been elected, have you noticed any change in how people of other races and ethnicities are treating you?

Friends, associates and relatives of mine have all noticed some kind of change, both pro and con. The lighter side is that Women, white women, are far more approachable in certain areas, then depending on the situation. This was suggested by a family member who was around during the civil rights movement, one who thought that we'd never see a Black Quarterback in professional football, let alone a Black President.

The "darker side", is the intensity of those who already hated people of color are now behaving, as if they have something to be fearful of, as in some sort of reprisal. This was told to me by a friend who is from Mississippi, as he noted that while that part of the south was always a bit backward in regard to progressive change, that even the progress that should be made, is being shot down by those who are fearful of President Obama's possible alliances.

What have you noticed, if anything, in your day to day affairs?

I haven't noticed anything. Others say they have. My question is always, "Are you sure people are acting different or if it is a coincidence."

I ask because I don't think you can say PEOPLE are acting different if you didn't know a person before and after the Big O got into office. If it is a stranger woman of another race that you talk to now, you can't really attribute it to Big O. How do you know that SAME woman wouldn't have given you the time of day before the Big O got into office. So you are essentially ASSUMING how a stranger would have treated you before.

So I am not sure if I buy it or not.

I do know this: My boss loves fox news so that's all we watch in the office, and anything Obama/democrat related is scrutinized and hated like none other. I've always heard about how bias they were and it's true. I even sent them an email addressing this observation.

It made plenty sense. But I recall family members talking about being the only "Black person", that some of their "white friends" knew. This is what shaped their white friends opinion of what Black people were about. Others, and I have seen this on niketalk, would suggest that BET will influence the opinions of many, in regard to Black people. Now we have this wonderfully intelligent Black man, positioned as the leader of the free world.

You don't think that this hasn't influenced some people and their behaviours toward Black people, then even Black people toward each other?

I've witnessed the FOX phenom as well. Subtle racist notions are being spread, as they only feature White people telling their version of the "News".

To be fair my white friends are all super-rich liberal, I went to a private college in New England and I wanna go to Africa to join the red cross and hug  poor black children white people.

You're right my white friends thought ALL black (and anything mixed with black) people were second class citizens, prone to violence, socially irresponsible and had pecan sized brains before Obama got elected.
  

No need to ask them it was assumed this is how all white people feel about blacks.

I don't see any difference. If there is one, it's benign to me. I just carry myself more professional and grown than I used to since graduating college and gettin married. I noticed the change in how I'm treated in regards to that
