I just picked up this iTrip store.apple.com/1-800-MY-...5.7.11.6.1 but it takes away a lot of the sound, any recommendations on what i should buy to keep the quality

I want to take my ipod to my friends house and upload some of his songs onto my ipod. Is there a way I can do this without losing all of my songs?

sorry if this has already been asked but is there any way to get music on my ipod without using itunes? my ipod doesnt connect to itunes for some reason but it will connect to my computer so i dont know what to do. can i add music using windows media player or realplayer?? can someone help me??
I'm Native, if that matters.
