yea definitely, I did the math and it roughly matches up to the cost of the 1oz bar
why do you prefer coins to the bars? Just curious..
Edit: I even saw some dudes selling same 1oz bar cheaper than Costco (only by like 100 or so), but I think I might prefer the cashback option and putting it on my CC rather than straight cash to someone lol
not a financial advisor so these are just my personal opinions, there are benefits to both
i like coins (not rounds) because it is technically a legal tender backed by the government, its never going to happen where golds value goes to zero but an American Gold Eagle is $50 so in that scenario, I can still use the coin as a $50 tender

but beyond that, it being Goverment backed makes it more difficult to counterfeit because the punishment for selling counterfeit currency is much more severe than selling fake gold bars, coins like AGEs and Maples also has better security features
being backed by the government also makes them more recognizable and easier to sell (due to the reasons above)
just an example when gold and silver were surging at its peak, LCS would rather have coins over bars because they buy bars to send to the refineries to get melted because it doesnt usually sell better than coin but the refineries got overwhelmed that they ran out of money to pay LCS for all the bars being sent to them
coins on the other hands the LCS could buy at 1% under spot and then sell it that same day for over spot because people were lining up to buy em (you also want to tried and avoid melting government backed coins i spossible) , eventually the LCS ran out of money to buy any gold and silver either because of how crazy it got but to me that just made coins a better option, in my mind at least
some coins are also collectible, Mexican Libertads only mints a limited amount of gold and silver coins so they do have a higher premium, for example they didnt mint any gold coins in 2025 at all
and i honestly just like to stack coins better than bars
i do like to touch em and play with them while with bars I dont really want to remover them from their assays as thats part of the legitimacy of the bars at least when selling from person to personand speaking of selling peer to peer, id diversify and get some smaller coins too like 1/10th or 1/4th, it does have a higher premium but if an 1oz of gold does go to say $6k-$7k, that makes it harder to sell too in case of emergencies, but if you have 1/10th coins you can move it easier at $600 a coin that $6,000
i mean that is if i have any or buy gold...
