From NetherRealm themselves, we've received this press release officially announcing that the Mortal Kombat 9 DLC is now available. *Like Tim mentioned eariler, Xbox DLC was LIVE but the PSN store may not have updated yet, but just be patient, it's coming!*

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and NetherRealm Studios announce today that the first DLC pack for the legendary fighting game Mortal Kombat is officially available. Featuring all of the of the pre-order content in one set, this collection consists of seven pre-order klassic character skins for Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Reptile, Ermac, Mileena, Jade and Kitana and klassic fatalities for Reptile, Scorpion and Sub-Zero. It is now available for purchase on Microsoft Xbox Live Arcade for 400 Microsoft Points or $4.99 on PlayStation Network.

If you are attending E3, please be sure to stop by the Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment booth (South Hall 2401) to check out the upcoming new DLC content – all-new warrior Skarlet – where she will be playable for the first time.

E3: GameTrailers Interviews Ed Boon

Less than an hour ago,
GameTrailers had the chance to interview Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon at this years E3, where the DLC character Skarlet is playable for the first time. During the interview Ed Boon revealed his and Netherrealm Studios' plans for the future:

- The current priority of the team is to support Mortal Kombat 9 (2011) through DLC Characters. The plan is to release new DLC Characters the entire summer, with at least 4 being currently planned. The first two are Skarlet and Kenshi. Skarlet will be available in the next few weeks but no date has been specified. During the interview you can see both of her Fatalities. Ed Boon once again confirms that the number of released DLC packages will mostly depend on whether fan's download them. He promises big surprises with the DLC Characters.
- Ed Boon also mentions that big things are coming up but he cannot talk about them just yet. Somehow the name of Kratos and guests pops up in the context. He also mentions that games like Mortal Kombat would look nice on PS Vita, PSP's successor which means that the door is wide open and we may see a release on that platform at some point in the future.
- When asked about where the team is going from here in the plans for a future game, Ed Boon points out several possible directions. He would love to further expand the Cinematic experience of the game (seen in Story mode). He does not think that we have seen the last of the characters who died in the game. The team also wants to expand into different genres. So, who knows, the next Mortal Kombat might be a new Action Adventure or something completely different. However he confirms that things aren't even on paper yet, so these are really just ideas.
