The Official NBA Season Thread: NBA Cup Night

So would you take Knecht over Reed Sheppard? Castle? McCain?
Not this years draft but, an example that come to mind is Malcom Brogdon

Another example is Fred Vanvleet. He also had to do time in the gleague though. But he contributed early on.

Jamie Jaquez Jr.

I thought he was gonna be a bust but Zach Edey.

Jared Mccain looks like a player. He’s gonna earn a lot more of brands with his reach and personality as well. More guys will start posting **** as well

These are outliers though. How many people should Jacquez have actually been picked before? Like 3?

Could argue Edey could’ve gone later even though he’s going to be a solid pro.

I’d rather swing for the fences and draft a project. Than draft a role player ceiling.

For the Lakers a team that is in a win now situation w/o a lot of choices to change the roster Knecht provides something they needed bad which is shooting.

He doesn't need to be a star but him being able to space the floor, give them 25-30 min a night off the bench and average around 12 a game is a huge floor raiser for this team.

Lakers don't have the cap space to acquire a veteran player who can provide that type of contribution. He's shooting 46% from 3 this year. A veteran doing that is going to cost at least 80 mill in FA.

But it’s not even necessarily “projects” that are being drafted. It’s guys that generally excel against their age group.

Devin Booker was going into his fourth season & averaged 26/4/7 at the same age Phoenix drafted Cam Johnson & Mikal Bridges.

If you're looking for complementary pieces, sure take the older prospects. Knecht on a young lottery team with no other pieces is Corey Kispert.

Trip to the motherland got me missing all the basketball over the last week, but bonjour de Côte D’Ivoire. Been catching up overnight and throughout the day today. Special 35th bday
My mans bout to run through Cocody like Omar Little, hitting scammers with the "dacomeup dumb play of the day©" 😤

Doug McDermott, Buddy Hield and Cam Johnson (all elite shooters) have hit but drafting old in the lotto seems unwise. Some older prospects taken in the top half of the draft the last 10 years:

Adreian Payne (RIP)
Frank Kaminsky
Kris Dunn
Denzel Valentine
Chris Duarte
Ochai Agbaji
Ochai having a good year rn

I was thinking about the ousmane dieng, payton watson types that get picked around the same area as Jaquez, Knecht then you have JHS

For every Chris Duarte there’s a Kwame Brown. Youth isn’t everything, you can whiff on prospects regardless of age.
