I watched the game. Congrats to Bam. His level of effort and activity were extraordinary - especially for a throwaway regular season game his opponents were actively trying to lose. Both sides got what they deserved on that front.

I saw that somebody else whose username I only remember because he tried to use the word “ghetto” as a pejorative decided to @ me on this. Anyone hoping that this somehow ruined my night will have to continue living with disappointment. The “GOAT talk” crash outs and despicable A’ja Wilson comments were by far the biggest downside.

I maintain a rooting interest in my childhood home team. Even if they somehow managed to win the championship before the heat death of the universe, you wouldn’t see me making a fool of myself over it. There’s little more pathetic than basing your self-esteem on accomplishments to which you did not contribute achieved by athletes to whom you are unrelated.

I’ve been pretty consistent in expressing my fatigue with the state of the franchise and its generational mismanagement. Bam scored fifty before he picked up his first assist, and I chalk that up not as a flaw of Bam’s game but as a failure of the Wizards’ coaching staff.

When Detroit parted ways with Monty Williams, they didn’t name Spencer Rivers their head coach to avoid paying a second salary. They went out and hired JB Bickerstaff, even though they were coming off a 14 win season. That investment paid off.

Leonsis didn’t want to spend the money to bring in an established head coach to lead a team through the tanking portion of a rebuild. We’re seeing the results.

As a fan, I’m less frustrated by this unexpected performance during an expected loss than the recent squandering of the team’s salary cap.
As a human, Trump brings far more shame daily to Washington, DC than any sports embarrassment.

The Wizards were already synonymous with failure long before this game.


This is hardly rock bottom for a franchise that was recently rejected by Arlington, Virginia.
