THE OFFICIAL NIKE KOBE FOOTWEAR THREAD: RIP LEGEND 1978-2020. MAMBA FOREVER | 3 Releases 4/13

They tried to take his Oscar?
Kobe wasn't a perfect man his entire career and yes, drew criticism at times. What athlete never drew criticism? At the point in his life when he passed away, he was highly revered across the entire planet. Nobody has a 100% success rate of being liked, you're just being dramatic.

And most fans that weren’t Lakers fans didn’t like him until he retired. They respected him, but didn’t like him.

Personality-wise some Lakers fans didn’t like his personality, but respected his game. He softened up later in his career and became more friendly. Also after the trial.

But when he passed he was well loved, yes “Some” in the media didn’t like him and there was small rumblings when he won the Oscar. Nothing major though.

He was speaking about women’s basketball, had the Detail series on ESPN, won an Oscar. Kobe was actually becoming more popular for the things he was doing outside of basketball.

And yes, his shoes weren’t selling out. That happens when one retires.

Just saw this on IG. Don't even remember what the shoe was called, and now I can't find it... 🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️Is this what we should expect Nike!?! WTH?!

Kobe should be rolling in his grave. I feel like continuing the "mamba" Sports Academy and furthering growth of the game is where you truly honor them. Not selling limited designer clothes at 90% markup.

It's one thing for a company like Nike to profit but when it's the wife and mother of the deceased? Yikes.

Even 90% seems low
There is no way that sweatshirt costs $22.40 to make

The pricing of the sweatsuits makes sense if you consider it a demonstrative means by which celebrities can show their support (like the nets and lakers entering their respective arenas wearing the hoodies) rather than as an accessible piece of kobe-related memorabilia for eevryone. They probably made bank and the money went to a good cause. Vanessa and the estate will eventually sell stuff priced for normal people, because there's too much of a market there for them not to.
