Shawshank changed my life....Ive learned many lessons from that movie...really...

Get busy living or get busy dying....

For me sleeping on this movie for so long.

Had some free time (and On Demand) and decided to finally check it out.

This movie can't not be in anyone's top 5... seriously.

The way it got shafted at the Oscars was

.... For the record I liked it much better than Forest Gump.

I can't remember the last time I cried, but I def. shed a tear after seeing this movie.


So to anyone who hasn't seen it... please do yourself a favor

It's one of my favorite movies and I agree it's better than Forrest Gump but it's not the best movie of all time.
 
One of the best movies of the 90s. But unless you've watched every movie that's thrown around in this conversation, that's a pretty crazy thing tosay. It's darn good but it ain't the best ever.
 
mos def in my top 10, but still iffy about top 5, but that's just cus i watch PLENTY of movies.



that flick just makes you appreciate life for what it is, it truly does.

I have no idea to this day what them two Italian ladies were singin' about. Truth is, I don't want to know. Some things are best left unsaid. I like tothink they were singin' about something so beautiful it can't be expressed in words, and makes your heart ache because of it. I tell you, those voicessoared. Higher and farther than anybody in a gray place dares to dream. It was like some beautiful bird flapped into our drab little cage and made these wallsdissolve away... and for the briefest of moments -- every last man at Shawshank felt free.

That there are things in this world not carved out of gray stone. That there's a small place inside of us they can never lock away, and that place iscalled hope.

Departed was good but I dont know about that

Shawshank greatest of all time? Godfather II>Godfather I>

two completely different movies, but even still the departed doesn't hold a candle to shawshank. on top of that it's a blatant rip off of a hongkong crime film made a couple years previous.
 
I swear I see this same post every week... but yea, co-signed. I don't know about all time, but its in my top 5 for sure.

I mean, Scorcese did mention it was an American remake.

it wasnt a rip off it was a remake. and i agree that they are two COMPLETELY different genre of film, but all i'm saying is if they were both on HBO at thesame time, i would watch The Departed.
 
Agreed, saw this in my film class during my senior year in school and couldn't wait for that class everyday because we saw the whole movie in 4-6 classperiods I don't remember but the ending was

Not for me...I can name 15 movies I feel are better than Shawshank Redemption, and prolly 25 that I'd rather own...But I'll keep it at 15.

12. The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. (Probably my favorite, I love this movie).
13. The Godfather.
14. The Godfather 2.
15. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.
