said, Objective C is used for iOS and Java is used for Android. For people going the Java route, look into the Android libraries as there are some subtle differences in how Android will handle some Java.

, it doesn't take 3 to 5 years to learn how to code. If you had a lot of free time and dedicated yourself to it, an average person could probably learn how to proficiently code in a year or two tops. Learning how to program is a lot like learning a new language; some people can pick it up quick, others will struggle getting through the basics. Being good at math and having a predisposition to problem solving can help, but it's a matter of aptitude and dedication. It's apparent even within the computer science courses I took. Some kids would have programs done in a matter of hours, others would take weeks.

,

I can see why someone might make that comparison. But there are a lot more people going around touting the title of rapper/musician making struggle music than there are people going around touting the title of programmer and making struggle apps.
A fair warning to all:
App development, in general, is not a lucrative career. Especially if you're independent. The 1 or 2% of apps that are actually profitable typically come from production labs that are a collaborative of multiple programmers. And even then, many times developers are just recouping their initial costs and expenses like servers and costs to maintain. Very solemnly will an app be wildly successful. A good idea doesn't always translate into a fluid app concept and user experience. If you're serious about app development, you shouldn't just be focusing on programming. You should also venture into the world of design, check out competitor apps, and even advertising, if you want this to generate money.
