in all honesty i would not take any ice cream from random strangers

It was in a sealed bag with air. It is much harder to lace than say a piece of candy. Even though I said I doubt the man recognizes me, it was pretty obvious I live in the vicinity because I was going towards a dead end. If there was anything funny, he'd know where to find me. While I understand the apphrension, accepting the ice cream from me carries the same risk as something you buy from the store potentially being tampered with. A meal you ate at a restaurant might have been prepared after the cook who you don't know could have just wiped his *** without washing his hands. Food for thought.

Sort of playing Devil's Advocate, but I don't quite think buying food from a store/restaurant carries quite the same risk as accepting free food from a stranger on the street. Stores/restaurants are motivated to give you safe stuff because if they don't it could have negative repercussions on their livelihood. In some cultures people don't accept free food from strangers or people they may even know.

Reasons being bad juju/black magic.

Not saying you do that but people can have their reservations when accepting food from strangers even if it comes off as innocent or they want to be hospitable.
