I thought it was the movie theatre she worked at (movie usher) down a few blocks from the highschool. That theatre is now a bootleg indoor swap meet/bazaar.

Funny strory about Marilyn Monroe. So the setting is 2009, my cousins hookah lounge where I was working. One day a group of 3 fine young black women walk in, sit down and order some hookahs. As time goes on like every 15 mins or so the coal thats on top of the hookah head needs to be changed as it continuously burns out & starts to ash. This was around the time Michael Jackson had passed away. The ladies were talking & making convo on dead musical icons. 1 of the ladies said "Can't believe Michael is gone" 2nd lady replies "yeah girl Elvis, Michael, Marilyn they all dead & gone" 3rd lady replies "wait WHAT? Marilyn is dead?!?!?! I'm a huge fan! When did this happen? My girl Marilyn really dead & left us?" Bros, when I tell you I had to stay professional & not burst out laughing- it took everything I had to not laugh my head off. Like woman, Marilyn been dead for damn near 50 years now!!! What kind of a "huge fan" are you?

You are correct! Just looked it up. The factory she worked at also happened to be in Van Nuys and the movie theatre was on Van Nuys Blvd too. Sucks she dropped out of VNHS so early but it kinda worked out in the end by getting discovered. I say kinda because we all know how her life ended.
