the thread about nothing...

Anyone know what's goin on???

In brief:

We lost access to our server due to the negligence of our now former hosting company. (Other customers addressed this here, if you want details: https://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=1932930 )

We temporarily regained partial access, but upon losing it again we had no choice but to rent another server elsewhere and restore from the most recent successful backup, which was completed prior to the initial outage.

Unfortunately, two days of posts were lost as a result, but we had to make the decision to cut our losses to avoid any further downtime.

They may try to use that as an excuse, but fire would not cause our assigned IP to suddenly transfer to an unrelated overseas hosting company. That doesn’t just randomly happen overnight. This was a foreseeable, avoidable issue that was never communicated to clients.

It’s hard to top CrowdGather trying to steal and rebrand our Yuku forums or Buzzfeed misappropriating entire months of revenue while the floundered on the verge of NASDAQ delisting, but this is probably in the top 5 instances of unprofessionalism I’ve encountered in 25 years of overseeing NikeTalk.

This was arguably the root cause of the problem: https://www.crunchbase.com/acquisition/edge-centres-acquires-quadranet--ec74070a

It’s almost never gone well for us when a partner has been acquired - Yuku by some wannabe VC fund whose name I forget, Yuku by Inform, Yuku by CrowdGather, Huddler by Wikia/Fandom, Complex by Buzzfeed, etc.

More often than not, it just turns into a strip mining operation and a talent exodus.

It was not a cheap fix, but I’m just glad to have the site back online and in safer hands.

I appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding.

I completely forgot about SneakerTalk, what a time

That was the forum equivalent of “organizations win championships” hubris.

I hate that it came to that, but couldn’t have been prouder of the community’s solidarity.

You’d think the trolls and bigots would be the worst part of operating an online community.
It’s the tech bros.

So my mom's went on an Alaskan cruise in August, she brought me back a sweater from Alaska. TIL: All sweaters are not created equal. :emoji_sweat_smile:. Its 40 degrees in Houston and Im out here talking about, "I may have over dressed.."

Random(not really): If your house burns down, do you still own the plot of land?

i believe so.. i also read that you have to pay mortgage on your house even if it burns down.
