Yugioh’s official competitive rulebook actually has a clause that allows tournament organizers to DQ you if you smell like *** lol. That really says it all about how bad the problem is.
More games should adopt that in their rulesets. I know a lot of people who compete in the fighting game community and have heard some horror stories about the smell, even at big events like EVO. It’s not just an issue at these small local events.
You can definitely argue it provides a competitive advantage. The people who pull up smelling like they haven’t showered in 2 weeks are used to their own musk but it’s nauseating and distracting for everyone else.
There’s sometimes free deodorant stands etc but that doesn’t exactly help. If anything, the combination of body stench with some Axe mixed in just makes it extra obnoxious.
