There was a really odd guerrilla marketing campaign

My friend and his sister found an unlabeled VHS tape in the parking garage at a local mall. When they put in their VCR to watch it the video played just like the "haunted video" in the movie for about a minute and then cut to black and had words on the screen saying "The Ring Coming to theater on insert date here "
