Yoooo, I'm going to school to be a drug and alcohol counselor, they shove the disease thing in our face every opportunity. It's bad how bad they try to shove that into someone's brain. I spoke up against it and I seriously thought I was going to get kicked out the program.

Drug counselors might cease to exist if people started believing it was their own decision to abuse drugs.

I'm guessing the program doesn't present both sides "fairly." I'd question if that program is going to actually be beneficial to you.

Agree then the line between counseling and therapy gets thin.

I'm real cool with the guy who oversees the program and he said to try not to be confrontational about it.

Its not that easy man. Im dealing with depression and ptsd. Its not as easy just sucking it up and being happy. Theres good days when im ok and in a good mood then theres the bad days. Isnt as easy as turning it off and on

All jokes aside depression takes discipline and motivation to balance out. Went through a very rough patch and did my time with meds and ****. Exercise, diet, and surroundings is everything. Anybody with negative energy chuck'Em the [emoji]9996[/emoji]️ and find a positive hobby to keep your mind distracted. Everybody go through it one time or another so you ain't alone. Losing my mind helped me quit drinking so it's all on what you do with your situation.

This. In most cases, depression can't be characterized as something people can just suck up and turn on and off. Studies suggest there's various different factors that can lead to depression. Genetic predisposition and imbalance of brain chemicals such as serotonin and dopamine are amongst them. While it can simply be the result of avoidable personal choices, that doesn't mean it shouldn't be characterized as a disease. I think claiming otherwise is a slap in the face to people suffering from it. The stigmatization of depression and mental health issues in general plays a large role in people's reluctance to seek professional help. That stigma doesn't help anyone.
