Medical bills do suck. I kind of wanted to return my new born daughter when I received the bill for her delivery.

Just kidding.

Medical bills are absolutely ridiculous.. And they do flood your mailbox with bills and you'll get the phone call from them every week..

I was suppose to type a 1000 words paper last semester but ended up turning a less than 500 words one in lol
I was passing that class anyway.

Small rant

My girl got a small procedure done. Just preventative per the doctors request. Out patient type surgery but she still had to go under for it. This was like 2 months ago. Now i know they say basically everyone that touches you while you are in the hospital will send you a bill. My girl has heath insurance too. She has received 6 bills so far totaling $1,900. We think this is the end of the bills but man. She works full time retail so its not like she is rolling in money. She can't afford $1900 she basically lives pay check to pay check now.

There was an $825 charge for "waiting room". The out patient waiting room that she was in for literally 10 mins....where they sit you down get you some water and crackers....$825...not a penny covered by insurance.

I never really knew how messed up the game was because i have been relatively healthy my whole life. But man how is it that some one with insurance still has to come out of pocket almost $2K for a simple procedure that was basically only done on doctors recommendation for preventative care.

Her parents are like oh they will work with you and can set up a payment plan....like ok $167 per month for a year just to pay off med bills, that's fine, nothing like paying the equivalent to a car note for a year.

Sadly her X-mas gift and Bday gift are going to be a couple hundred bucks to help her pay down her medical bills

Literally call the hospital finance department and tell them exactly what you said.

Tell them she makes a really low salary ( say a little lower than she actually makes) and that she can't afford to pay for it (persist on "Can't" regardless of what payment play they'll offer). They will negotiate with you on something that you can afford to settle the payment more than likely. It is really that simple. If you are not hearing what you like or the person you are speaking to is not responsive or understanding to your circumstance, ask to speak to another person, always someone higher-up than the person you're speaking to previously.

They will eventually realize what you can afford based on the scenario you have presented and settle. Or they know they will just waste time & money if they decide to send it to collection. With zero chance of recovering it.

You ALWAYS gotta fight every hospital bill.
