Small morning rant:
Sallie mae tells me i can't re-enroll in the rate reduction plan for my college loans....why? Because i wasn't showing hardship......
"Sir you have a good credit score and you made all your payments, we will be returning your loans to the original interest rates of 8% and 8.5% for your two loans"
"Uh what? Like i can barely pay the payments now at 5%.....what makes you say that i can't afford it at 8% and 8.5%"
"Well you didn't miss a payment"
"I know because im trying to be responsible???? and make my payments?!?!"
"Sir there is nothing i can do"
So for everyone who says don't go to an expensive school if you don't want to pay back your loans. Just take this. Mortgage rates....3%....college loan rates....8%????? Like i know my school was too expensive and i have done everything in my power to get a good job and make my payments on time using all and any means possible. (all my loans are private so thanks for the income based repayment advice but it doesn't work on private). Yet the system is so wrong that they can jack your rates up to double that of a home loan.
The system is straight up predatory. These private companies ability to handicap your entire life is ridiculous. It's for an education...to make me a productive member of society...but not when you are making $1300 a month in college loan payments at 8% until your are 45 years old.
Needless to say i applied and got approved yesterday by So-Fi to re-fi my loans to a much better monthly payment (6.3%).
This on top of my telling sallie mae like look i will re-fi with a 3rd party....if you want more money it will pay to keep me paying you at a comparable interest rate. Like you can make a good 50k off me over the life of my loans if you keep me. But no...."no hardship"....but like you are going to lose money if you do this. The lady on the phone straight up tells me to look at other options. Great business practice...tell your slaves to go find a new master...you are dumb and i hope the government steps in and regulates your interest rates for education loans and puts a cap on them at 3% so kids can get an education and have reasonable expectations of paying back loans.

Dude refinance your loans. Trust me. We're in a low rate environment and you'll get much better than what those crooks are giving you.
You can even receive pee approval some places without a need for a hard pull on your credit. I refinanced through Earnest and my experience was great. There are several places that are in this game right now but three of the best out are Earnest, Common Bond, and Sofi.

took the step yesterday. Fixed rate 10 year very achievable payments through So-Fi.
Just want people to know the system is effed. The amount of people that tell me "whelp shouldn't have gone to an expensive college if you couldn't pay it back" . Like i can pay it back. I CAN. But they don't want you to pay it back

Sure don't. My school was expensive too and those fools weren't doing anything to help really.
Through refinancing and my new job i was able to finish paying off my loans this year. If I stayed with Sallie Mae and Chase that would have never happened this fast.
