Oh wow, I thought they name changed all the Pick n' Save stores to "Big Lots" nation wide. Used to love going there as a kid for hard to find cereals and toys.

Thankful for being put on to good music as a kid. Got friends like "my older sister and i would listen to good charlotte and simple plan". My sister and my best friends sister would play Pun, Pac, Big, Wu-tang, DMX. I look back at it like thank god i wasn't raised on 80s pop music and in my childhood i had my sister to play good music and put me onto it.

I don't understand it. No one talks about popular TV shows, movies, sporting events, or anything here. They all just put their head down and work or gossip among one another

Went to see my dad again today. The hospital sent him to a retirement home that offers temporary further treatment to hospital referrals. He'll be staying there until the 28th, then he'll be released to go home but we're not sure how that's going to work.
His face and parts of his upper body still have some moderate jaundice but the rest appears to have returned to a milk white color.
Something weird is definitely going on mentally though, I'm guessing due to the alcohol abuse. Maybe Korsakoff syndrome.
As I've mentioned before I've known my dad as being extremely racist for most of my life, one of the main reasons why I limited contact after the divorce to the absolute minimum. Several months ago he was a big Trump supporter.
Earlier this month in the hospital, he was repeatedly bringing up on his own how evil Trump is and that he's a moron. That's a complete 180 from several months ago, where he was very supportive of Trump in general, especially his comments on muslims.
This already struck me as quite odd at that time, coming from him.
Fast forward to today; I went to the retirement home where he's staying now and we had another very odd conversation.
First he talked about the exact details of how he got fired from his job as a laboratory worker in a chemical company. Prior to now, he has never discussed actual details about that with me. He talked about how the company was cutting the number of employees and how 9 people ended up getting fired including him. He also specified exactly how much money he got from his severance package. I also found this odd because he has never discussed any sort of financials with me, certainly not in detail. In the past, if I brought up money in any way he'd change the subject immediately and get visibly frustrated.
I know he used to go fishing a lot so I then brought up that I was watching the seasons of Animal Planet's River Monsters I hadn't seen yet. He responded "Oh, with Jeremy Wade right? Great show". I saw this as a good sign that he remembered Jeremy Wade was the host but before I could get another word in he immediately said "And since you brought up Syria, it's really terrible what Assad and the Russians are doing there. All those innocent people."
This kinda stunned me as I did not bring up Syria at all and this is the same man who has made comments like "Oh well, at least that's a few less muslims in the world" in response to suicide bombings in the middle east.
So I really can't make sense of this complete 180 and the fact he randomly brought it up out of nowhere mid-conversation. He then immediately proceeded "You've heard about the terror attack in Iran's parliament right? I think Trump might be behind it. The CIA or maybe working together with the Saudis. I'm telling you that man (Trump) is up to no good."
After that I changed the subject but that whole exchange was just very very strange to me and certainly makes me suspicious of some kind of mental health issue.
- Randomly bringing up "since you're talking about Syria" in the middle of a conversation about fishing, nothing I said in that moment could possibly be misheard as Syria.
- A complete 180 on his views on Trump, whereas he was a very big supporter just a few months earlier
- Suddenly seems to care about innocent muslims or people in the middle east in general being killed or injured despite having a long history of hatred towards muslims, middle eastern people, ... even going as far as condoning terrorist attacks in the middle east because they kill muslims.
- The weird conspiracy theory he brought up that Trump was somehow behind the attack in Iran's parliament.
- The fact that he hasn't said anything racist at all since he landed himself in the hospital. Before that it was practically unavoidable to hear at least some degree of racist bs in a conversation
- Talking about money in exact figures
I appreciate the fact that I don't have to hear racist nonsense anymore, at least none so far, and that he seems to be more open about various topics but I find it hard to believe this isn't the result of some kind of mental health issue.
