If 600k isn't enough for a house in california, where tf am I supposed to live on 100k a year?
What does one have to do to get a beach house or live in a gated community in CA. If Im busting my *** 50 hours a week rotting in a cubicle I want to be in a nice house off work. If that isn't realistic then I'm just gonna stay put as a firefighter

You can afford a house if you made 100k annually in CA. You'd simply have to commute to work though.
A lot of people commute 2-4 hours daily to get to their jobs in SF. I remember a co-worker commuted from Fresno when he worked in SF. I was sick at how much time he spent on the road. Idk if I can sacrifice 6 hours a day commuting to and from work.

I was commuting to Manhattan which was 1.5 hours to get there..that lasted a month..had to move up there..but that was pre-smartphone era..id be fine with taking the train now

My dad was doing that after he retired from the air force, driving from Merced to San Jose working at the airport. Quit after a year, felt like the commute was killing him, even though he was doing what he loved once he got to work. Couldn't even enjoy that after a while, and got into family law.

fresno-sf?! jesus christ, 3 hours just to go to work is horrible.
it's so annoying how 800sqft houses built like 100 years ago cost $1 million+
depends. some places you really have no choice but to drive. but if youre going to sf, oakland or some place near a station, BART is best.
but if you drive, traffic is your worst enemy. what takes me 15 minutes to drive without traffic can easily turn to an hour drive at rush hour
