Used to bother me, now I couldn't care less. I've had friends in need, who I went out of my way to send/deposit money to that didn't thank me. Of course, they made absolutely no effort to return the money. I say it, but do not expect everyone to have the same decency.

You'll be surprised. I've had a couple guests at my place who went to my bathroom to pee, and didn't even turn on the lights or close the door.
That reminds me, I had a friend who I went out to eat with a few times when he was unemployed and for this reason I picked up the check. Never thanked me and I didn't think much of it but he showed his true colors later.
Ironically, the Uber driver I left the biggest tip for (cash) did not thank me. I did so because I was in a good mood.

Uber and Doordash really elimimated the need for friends. There is no point really, there are very little loyal and reliable people in this world.

Well, I'm not cynical to the point which I hate people as a whole. I do think that in general humanity exists. But seeing people getting stabbed in the back and taken advantage of time and time again makes it hard for me to have much faith. Friends I'd rather have 4 quarters than 100 pennies. I do consider quite a few NTers on here friends. I've been screwed over by "friends" in real life so many times so I tend to keep my guard up/have trust issues. I've lost count how many times I've been stabbed in the back.
My back basically looks like this
Loyalty is big w/ me, you break my trust I'll never forgive you and don't want you in my life.

I have the same mentality as you. I have losers backstabbed me and used me and I’ve blacklisted a lot of them...they think I don’t know what they’re doing but I always know, just observing them more. Mutual friends think it’s my fault for blacklisting certain people but in reality I just keep to myself on why I stopped. Years back, one of my closest friends was one of those outgoing types who had good verbal skills and manners. But I got to know him really well and found out he is a POS behind closed doors. If I revealed what he says and does when nobody else is around, they wouldn't believe me. After I saw enough of the real person underneath the surface, I cut him off. But everyone associated me with him so many of our circles overlapped and I got tired of tip-toeing. So I had to cut ties with just about everyone I met during that period of time.

When you're doing someone a favor, ask yourself would this person do the same for me? Most of the time, you know the answer and that should determine whether or not you should go through with it.
