Architecture and planning is so interesting.
Like a bridge saving you time on an otherwise 30 minute longer commute. Spread that to 1000 people. Than spread that across the year. That's like 182,500 hours cumulative time saved. That increases productivity in a country, that decreases car pollution, gas usage, increases sleep, etc.
The way a neighborhood is built can increase community interaction or isolation. Or green-friendly transportation like bicycling.
This is just a guess but non-family friendly skyscraper apartments becoming a more typical living space for young graduates probably made it less likely to want to have kids at young ages.
Certain bridges have become hotspots for suicide.
The way office cubicles are built are different when companies want to promote different types of behavior.
