I was familiar with them maybe 30 years ago? They were one of those in-style shoes in the early 90s I think - along with Travel Fox and SPX. Never had a pair though - couldn't afford them back then...

Oh no fam, I was talking about the shoe store Shoe Dept. I’ve never heard of one here in Southern California. You’re right about the kicks though, late 80s to early 90s was their prime.

Went to the Harry Potter store in Manhattan today. Being a fan of the movies this was pretty cool. I liked how they did the Ministry of Magic themed elevators. Beer Butter ice cream was mad good not going to lie. The Beer Butter soda was ok. Sword of Gryffindor was dope. Had a quality metal heaviness to it.

Yeezy boots came in. Had to unlace and relace them and give them a light cleaning, but they fit and look great. Super happy to have them. Need to get some shoe inserts though.

Not trying to hate seriously curious. Is that before cleaning or did they come pre dusty like that, and the soles look like that after cleaning?

I know Ye and Virgil got the kids out here with pre dusty and pre yellow shoes and that's the trend, but I just can't wrap my head around why. When I was younger I was meticulous about keeping my shoes clean. Tooth brush cleaning after every wear. My mom had to work so hard to get them for me I wanted them to be as fresh as possible. I even got in a few fights in elementary and middle school over people stepping on my shoes.

I guess it's similar to how my grandpa would get heated at my aunt for buying pre ripped jeans.

He explained that when he was growing up new jeans were a luxury. He only had hand me downs and the holes would be patched and he would get made fun of for the holes and or patches. Only time he was able to get a brand new pair of jeans was when he was 17 and his brother was gone to the navy and didn't have anymore hand me downs to get. Said he wore those jeans until he was 23 . He just couldn't wrap his mind around how they jeans he got made of for were in style and kids would spend so much money on them and only wear them for a few months at a time.

The older I get it's wild seeing seeing the different trends between decades.

But honestly I can relate to you, albeit probably being much younger than you. (21) I got my first pair of Jordan's when I was like 7. They were a pair of 6 rings and I loved them. Eventually hard times hit my family and while I wasn't wearing hand me downs or patching up old pants, I was far from well off, growing up. We struggled quite a bit but no matter what I was adamant about keeping my shoes as clean as possible.

To this day that has not changed and I still clean my Jordan's with soap, hot water and an old toothbrush or cleaning brush if necessary. The whole "vintage"/pre aged shoe thing will forever be lame to me. I think one of the best parts of sneakers is the stories they tell with each crease, knick, scuff and the oxidation and yellowing that ensues with age. My 2016 Black Toe 1s (that I somehow got manually on FTL years ago ) have aged gracefully. They're creased up but not horribly so with the midsoles currently showing a nice cream yellow and I wouldn't change it for anything. They got to that point from me wearing them through rain, snow, sleet and all that wintery slush and summer heat from my sophomore year of high school to now as a junior in college. They have a story to tell. With sneakers that come out the box aged you don't get that, imo. At least not to the same extent.

In regards to your grandfather, my mother grew up the same way. Fashion is a cyclical cycle and trends seem to rotate every few decades. There's no telling what the next big trend will be.
