The name itself is self-explanatory but historically who the hell coined the name “wifebeaters” for tank tops? I had to correct myself today when talking with coworkers, I know it’s not acceptable anymore but that’s the name I used for tank tops my whole life, it was so common I never even thought about what I was saying when I said it.

I think you might be on to something. I do remember most of the guys getting arrested for DV had on white tank tops and were usually drunk as hell during the encounter.
