the thread about nothing...

If I like Cookies and Cream, I'm not going to a Vanilla Bean rally to protest for any reason.
I agree

Yea I wouldn't even respond to no petty/goofy stuff like that.
I understand the idea of why its viewed as petty. Is it still petty when the entire team starts to do it? Cuz so and so did it and ain't nothing happening to them.

If I was the supervisor, I wouldn't have sent the email. And im not sure i would have reacted immediately to the 1st time its happening. But if it happened again, there'd be a conversation where id try to understand why its happening.

But I also dont think its wrong to address it the 1st time it happens either. Nip **** in the bud immediately and then theres no confusion going forward. You may think im a petty ***** but at least you now know and understand the expectations.

I wouldn't call it wrong, but that's because a value of mine is that 'right/wrong' only applies to issues of morality.
I know that's a separate semantics conversation, though.

Addressing something the first time it happens is a form of micromanaging.
I'm sure a lot of us older NTers have been in some sort of authority role before: teacher, shift manager, hell, even a parent.
Addressing something the 1st time it happens is an exercise in "If you're not perfect, I'm going to say something."

Address habits, not imperfections.

For sure. Which is why I wouldn't do it on the 1st go round. But, again, I dont view immediate course correction on black and white rules to be "wrong" or micromanging as you said. Its close, no doubt. But there was a clear (albeit small) violation of rules.
