I was trying to explain my kids why Michael Jackson is Michael Jackson. I tried to not downplay his talent, but I find it very interesting that everything from that mid-late 80's through most of the 90's (and im probably biased about that as im a Bulls fan, so the run is through 98 for me for sure) is so insanely popular/considered GOAT tier status across so many different things. It is absolutely due to the media not being as wide-spreading and user-controlled/influenced as it is now. You either talked about what was on TV or you were a lame. No in between.
But was definitely telling my kids, that's how you get Jackson, Jordan, Tyson, Biggie, Pac, Yankees, cowboys, will Smith etc etc etc.
Slightly related, that Michael Jackson movie has a choke hold on the youth right now. Took my son to a field trip Friday...the amount of kids I heard talking about/trying to emulate the moonwalk...
As for most famous right now, im positive 2 of the 4 spots go to Ronaldo and Messi. Id assume the other 2 go to Taylor Swift and Bad Bunny, but maybe not. Truly dont know. Lebron's probably up there too. I'm sitting here wondering if Lebron is more famous than Swift. He's gotta be, right?

interesting to think for whom 'average' folk could, today, actually NAME 5 songs given the cultural splintering into personal algorithms & no singular media...i think if played snippets of artist most played joints people would actually have heard the song(s) some kind of way but likely could not name them, would this count?
