The Ultimate Football Thread 2013-2014 Vol. 4 EPL, La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A etc

Well, it's only taken 30 games to finally see the first bit of fight from Spurs this season ...but hey-ho, better late than never I suppose.

Probably still won't be enough

Ohhhh mfg. I have no idea how Arsenal kept them out with those 2 gifts from Scznesny.

Just finished watching the United vs Liverpool game. :lol Easy 3 points. Liverpool just needs to keep on pushing and sweep their remaining opponents. They can win win the league. :smokin

:lol @ the Moyes football genius sign

United's main problem is central midfield. They have no fluidity in the midfield. Forwards like Mata, RVP are irrelevant if you don't have a strong midfield behind them.

Fellaini is not a top club caliber player, should have stayed at Everton.

The biggest issue with United is NOT central midfield. The biggest issue at United is Moyes' tactics or lack of thereof.

I've shown this image before on how Moyes has United setup.

Now, we've all seen how some of the best teams setup...

But the fans and Moyes often sit and complain that we don't have quality midfielders. So Moyes makes due with what he has, Cleverley, Young etc.

I won't bother to find a visual reference for what Young does, cause we all know he looks down while crossing in as much as humanly possible, whenever he's not diving.
Cleverley on the other hand doesn't do anything so you can take this blank space as a visual reference for what he does.

Now, let's look at a player who sits on the bench....

Drops in deep (which is not even where he should be used best but hey, we're making due here), looks for passes, tries to help move the ball around.

This kid, actually moves into open space to help keep the ball moving at all times, and to try and pull defences out of shape. Leaving room for players like Rooney, RVP, Mata to try and get on a run.

And because he's been outcasted to the bench, and he probably doesn't even train with the first team, he actually has taken some of the quality managerial lessons he learned BEFORE coming to United, and tries to implement them.

Doesn't that look familiar?

Now doesn't that look like a setup one can build on with a quick clever pass and a run behind the defender at the top of the blue box?

What do you think happened?

After that, on Moyes' instruction, the ball is either taken out wide for a cross, or just booted up for someone like RVP to hopefully get on the end of it (RVP hasn't been firing away at all this season, don't you think as a manager it's a good time to just start feeding him correctly?)

The point I'm trying to make here is this. Even if you bought Xavi, Iniesta, Koke, Gundogan, Gotze, Schweinsteiger all in one transfer window it will NOT make a difference. If they're being told to goto the wing or boot it up for RVP, or create circle formations with no players in the middle to orchestrate the circle it WILL NOT make a difference.

It's literally like giving a Formula 1 car to a street racer.

Congrats to La Pulga becoming Barca's all time goal scorer breaking a long held record by Paulino Alcantara (who is of Filipino decent). Crazy thing is that Paulino left Barca for several years (only to come back) or the record could've taken longer to break...

ive given up all hope i had even though i wasnt expecting much at all i knew this wasnt going to be a good season but by no means do i want moyes' head outside OT on a spike i believe in him and dont care what everyone else says

Yea, I've always thought that was an interesting fact. Paulino 's father was in the Spanish military & his mother was born in Iloilo. He led a very interesting life. You should try to read up on him if your interested.

Arsène Wenger will conduct a comprehensive investigation into his club's training methods and medical procedures in an effort to establish whether Arsenal could have avoided the spate of injuries that risks sabotaging their season.

The manager admits he is "concerned" that Arsenal will go into Sunday's north London derby shorn of at least four key players, after Mesut Özil joined a casualty list that already featured Aaron Ramsey, Theo Walcott and Jack Wilshere. A hamstring strain forced the German to limp off at half-time in Arsenal's Champions League draw with Bayern Munich on Tuesday and will keep him out of action for between three and six weeks. Thus the £42m summer signing will miss not only the match with Tottenham Hotspur, but also the pivotal meetings with Chelsea and Manchester City. It was hoped that Ramsey, at least, would be fit in time for those fixtures but his participation now also looks in jeopardy as he struggles to recover from a thigh problem that has incapacitated him since Boxing Day.

"I am concerned that this happens," said Wenger. "If you look at our overall injury list going into such a decisive part of the season, we have not Wilshere, not Walcott, not Özil, not Ramsey and we went to Bayern without [Kieran] Gibbs and [Nacho] Monreal. We are analysing very deeply why it happened and to see if there is a link between all these injuries."

In a season in which Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Yaya Sanogo and Nicklas Bendtner have also been stricken for long periods, the manager is especially worried about the frequency with which his players succumb to muscular injuries of the sort that have afflicted Ozil, Ramsey and Gibbs.

"For Walcott it's completely bad luck. Wilshere – I don't think it is linked with the other injuries, it's more linked with his history and the kick he got. But the rest, maybe we have to find why it happened." Asked whether he would review his training and medical procedures, Wenger said he would assess "everything".

"It's very difficult to find any obvious reason why. For example, a player like Özil –he was rested against Stoke, then he goes to Germany and he trains different, sometimes on a different ground with different sessions. He played the whole game [for Germany against Chile] and the whole game for us against Everton and he produced on that day, doing more physically than usually and he paid for it the next day. Why? I don't know."

The manager said he was especially bothered about Ramsey's lingering thigh trouble. "That's our worry at the moment, Ramsey is taking longer than expected," he said. "He had a first setback and then he planned to join in [training] on Thursday but he had recurring pains in his thigh. Of course he's now a little apprehensive because of the setback. We have to be very cautious with him. When will he be back? I believe it's two more weeks now."

In better news for Wenger, Kim Kallstrom is available to make his long-awaited debut on Sunday. Arsenal fans were underwhelmed when, at a time when they were crying out for another striker, Wenger made a 31-year-old midfielder with back trouble his only January signing. But given the current injury problems, Kallstrom's availability is well timed. If the Swede who arrived from Spartak Moscow can recover his match sharpness quickly, he could make an important contribution to Arsenal as the campaign reaches its climax.

Thing is, the Moyes apologists are saying "they didn't expect to win" or "Lets give him a year or two".

What for? Why give him more time? He has the reigning EPL championship squad, along with Fellaini and Mata, so you can advocate that United have become better. But on the field they're clueless. Look how bad the Spurs are and the way they play - United is 5 POINTS behind them. This is absurd, the dude should not be managing this squad. Forget giving him another chance. He wasn't qualified before, he doesn't implement tactics - he's way in over his head. It won't change.

He got the job because he was Scottish and Fergie chose him. Fergie may have been great at picking players and tactics but this is the biggest mistake he's ever made. He had no idea what he was doing picking a manager.

Give Moyes a year or two?? He will be fired when Man U lose in the Champions League.

When is Tott'num and ManU playing again? I'm tryna see Sherwood's back line vs. Moyes' Mid go at it
