I don't think theres ANY group that contributed so much good music for hip-hop both as a group and individually than the Wu, now thats not to sayeverything they drop was worthy of praise because most view Wu's decline during the late 90's but still as a whole you can't do nothing but respecthow they helped to elevate the game musically. Run DMC helped to open up the doors for rap artists to tour internationally but Wu really did a great job atadvancing the international market for rappers to tour oversees, one of their many accolades. Even outside of music they helped to shape hip-hop fashion, oneof the first to venture into creating their own clothing line with Wu-Wear, helped to shape the Hilfiger/Polo era, Wallabees, Jesus piece ... man theirinfluence on hip-hop is amazing, can't forget they started the trends of rap monikers [Frank White, Esco]

Now listen to a track titled "Can It Be All So Simple". Notice the soul sample? Now listen to a lot of what been hot for the last 10 years (soul samples), that's where it started.

I'll list Wu-Tangs contributions that I can quickly think of and maybe people can add to this.

--Started the whole "aka/nickname" trend (still going)
--Made the mafioso rap style (OB4CL) big in hip hop
--First crew to sign as a group and at the same time have all of their artist sign different individual contracts with other labels
--First crew to start their own clothing line (then came Rocawear, etc)
--First crew to make their logo as popular, if not more than their music

As far as their sound, it was grimy at that time and really brought attention back to the East Coast at a time when the West was running hip hop.

As far as I can remember the other thing that made the Wu huge was the fact that they made NO apologies for being as grimy as they were. They really didn't make radio music back then, unless you count "Ice Cream" off of OB4CL and they still sold multi platinum.

I gotta run, but I can go on and on...

I'll add more later.

You said it BEST with this statement alone.

My dude U-God hardly ever gets love, but I'ma give it up to him.

He definitely sparked a trend in Jewelry with the bracelets well before Ghost had the eagle...

Swear to God i've never listened to a U-God album ever.. doubt that will change either.

Y'all are missing out with U-God

Raw Ima Give it to ya, with no trivia
We're like cocaine straight from Boliva
My hip-hop will rock and shock the nation
like the Emancipation Proclamation
Weak MC's approach with slang that's dead
you might as well run into the wall and bang your head
I'm pushin' force, my force your doubtin'
I'm makin' devils cower to the Caucus Mountains

Plus Stomp Da Roach off Dopium is dope

U-God got some gems when it comes to verses

but I'd take any of the lesser known Wu heads over him anyday

U-God's verse.

Curses from war, innocent blood spills for days
Soothing godly ways, hands, solemn in praise
Tree of life, more precious than Wu is golden game
The wise self flourish inherit, Halls of Fame
Crime visions in my blood got me, locked in prison
While we die hard living people whine about religion, vision
Globe, spinnin, and sin and killing what's revealing
It's a never ending battle with no ending or beginning, listen
Zero process, progress, become the hunted
America's most wanted, good life flaunted, want it
Some love the speed, some satisfy a need
Some want to be down, young gun seed, jungle breed
The strong must feed, someone die, someone bleed
One flew astray, and then caught my little seed
Can it be, the ice have us trife life, made me grab the knife
The righteous man would be within these stripes pipes
Take in my energy, breath and know the rest
Cause the good die young and the hard die best

One of my favorite verses on that album...

U-God shines on the group albums and features, I don't think I can do a whole album of U-God; Bizarre is

though.

Just think about the song triumph, it had no hook, no bridge, no nothin. Just a beat and 9 verses back to back and it was the #1 single in the country, nowadays i can't think a group with just 3 rappers i'd like to hear that from let alone 9

Dopium was a decent album.

i think all that needs to be said about Wu has already been said.

RZA is a +$$##@%%+$*!% genius. i swear dude is a reincarnation of the Buddha. if you ever peeped any of his interviews you would agree. dude is deep on awhole 'nother level.

I bought Golden Arms Redemption on rd and have listened to it no more than 5 times. Dude is cool for a 16 here and there but that's it.

Don't get me wrong, I ain't a heavy U-God fan, I just wanted to let him get some shine before this thread moved on to the better MCs in the clan...

As for Bobby Digital IN STEREO, that still gets play today. Holocaust
