The origin of the word "cray" from the song is actually not a shortened form of the word "crazy" and it's not "cray" its actually "kray."  It's in reference to the schizophrenic twins Ronald and Reginald Kray.

The Kray twins were crime lords of London in the 50's the  60's.  The police would always fail to find them which is where the line "ball so hard %#^$%@#^$!@ wanna find me, that $#!% kray" came from.

Reginald "Reggie" Kray (24 October 1933 – 1 October 2000) and his twin brother Ronald "Ronnie" Kray (24 October 1933 – 17 March 1995) were the foremost perpetrators of organised crime in London's East End during the 1950s and 1960s. Ronald, commonly referred to as Ron or Ronnie, most likely suffered from paranoid schizophrenia.[4] The Krays were involved in armed robberies, arson, protection rackets, violent assaults including torture and the murders of Jack "The Hat" McVitie and George Cornell. As West End nightclub owners, they mixed with prominent entertainers including Diana Dors, Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland and politicians. The Krays were highly feared within their social environment, and in the 1960s they became celebrities in their own right, being photographed by David Bailey and interviewed on television. They were arrested on 9 May 1968 and convicted in 1969 by the efforts of a squad of detectives led by Detective Superintendent Leonard "Nipper" Read, and were both sentenced to life imprisonment.

Ronnie remained in Broadmoor Hospital until his death on 17 March 1995, but Reggie was released from prison on compassionate grounds in August 2000, eight weeks before his death in October from cancer.

Thanks for explaining that. I didn't know, not ashamed to admit it. I am sure others didn't know but the first 2 posts in this thread will dictate the tone of the thread. And the tone is Sass, Act like you already knew it, or you don't care. Thanks Bottom

y'all giving jay and ye too much credit... at the conert, it said cray

they got it from jeezy also

For real though, I knew this as soon as the song dropped and nobody believed me.  We studied these dudes my junior year in history for like a month straight

How does this make any sense? How would Kanye even have heard of the Kray twins? Is he a huge Monty Python fan? Did he really love the second season of Whitechapel?

They say CRAZY in live and edited performances of the song for chissakes and video clearly spells it with a C not a K

knew this already dont know if i ever believed it was intentional thoe,..

Calm down, I saw something, I went to Wikipedia to read up on it and it turns out I was giving too much credit to the rappers. Jay-Z is not the average rapper so it's not impossible he could have thought of something like this.

You all understand that just because Jigga-dude and Mr. West didn't know about them someone could have fed them the idea.

I think Kanye was just saying "cray" as in crazy and J put two and two together and came up with the "ball so hard" line.

But, you never know. Kanye may have actually read a book.

Might not be true but I like reading about these. Makes you wonder if it's true or not.
