He blames the Marines and military for his war crimes? For his murders??

It's definitely an eye opener to know that this stuff goes on with US Marines oversesas, but to completely negate yourself of responsibility and blame the Military and your country entirely for your own horrendous actions?? If you were truly sorry for your actions you would let yourself be tried for war crimes or just kill yourself.

This is the kind of hippy douchebaggery that makes me want to grab a stinky, no deodorant wearing Liberal and rage on their faces. Hard.

This.

The human mind is easily conditioned. He obeyed his superiors like he was taught to. Why would he kill himself

I believe dude is sorry for what he did, but I do agree he should face trial.

War changes people. Atleast he came to his senses and found out it was wrong. It's kind of good how he spreads this message so the people know what actually happens in Iraq.

before joining, he already knew he was going to go through all that. I don't see the point of him showing this to the public blaming the military for his own actions. When he was shooting that machine gun i bet he was enjoying the power of that gun so, what's the point if this?

What?
He was following orders. But low key dude must have felt bad about it and thought that by doing this he can come CLEAN

thats why I wont join the armed forces unless necessary

have you ever been to war?

Do you know how you would act under combat stress? Do you know how you would react to seeing your friends killed in front of you?

I personally don't so I can't pass judgement on the guy. Of course I know it's wrong what he did but I'll let someone else judge him.

Im posting from my BB so my fomatting might be wierd, but i'll try my best to get the subject matter across

I completely believe that the "culture" of a place completely affects attitude, performance and behavior. Take for example a sports team, people often reference what they call a culture of winning or losing and how it affects players. Or even in an office setting- people call it a culture of laziness or underperformance or high performance or accountability etc. Take for example Enron- there business structure had a culture of a lack of accountablilty and honesty and look at what happened. This can be seen in inner city communities as well. There is a disproportionate number of crimes and poverty in the inner city because of the culture of crime and poverty! So do we as a society excuse the murderer who grew up in the inner city who was raised in this culture? No!!

The same must go for the marine and all the other spineless marines on this winter soldier panel as well. They had the legal right to refuse any order that qualifies as a war crime from a superior. Not just the right bu the duty to refuse and report their superiors.

So yes, while tragically there was a culture of violence and hostile attitudes toward the iraqis by the marines superiors- they had no excuse to kill these innocent people as the marine in the video stated. The icing on the cake is him blaming the military and the united states for his murders... Smh. If this guy is seriously sorry for what he did he would allow himself to stand trial for his war crimes. Walk the walk

Hmm I don't see any issues with this vid. I commend him for stepping up to expose some of the inhumane acts committed by himself and other marines, wish more would do so.

MASCULINE SOCIALIZATION, WAR, AND SOLDIERING[/color]

Many scholars have argued that traditional elements of masculinity are valued by the military and reinforced in military training (e.g., Addelston & Stirratt, 1996; Braudy, 2003; Enloe, 1983). Initial socialization experiences in ba- sic training are centrally connected to masculinity: “Masculinity . . . becomes the major emphasis of basic trainingâ€
