No, not everyone in the U.S. Marines are bad cookies. It's not a secret that the Marines gave him the training to kill, but it is he himself and other Marines like him who have taken it upon themselves to KILL innocent civilians.
While their missions are completely different, it's almost analogous to blaming the entire Catholic Church over individual priests who have molested children.

He clearly isn't the only one in the military killing innocent people, let's not be naive...I would even go as far as saying the innocent casualties (direct and indirect) in the wars in the middle east may very well exceed the casualties of the so called "insurgents".

But yes, I completely agree with you that after seeing you're friends killed day in and day out by the same common, brown face- how can you not rage? He definitely snapped, probably like many others in the Marines and out in Iraq and Afghanistan. But that's NOT a defense for killing innocents. How can you not place any blame on this man and only the system?? If it were truly the system, all Marines out in the Middle East would be committing genocide right now.

They are equally held accountable. Who is more to blame, the charismatic leader who trains impressionable teenagers and youth to carry out acts of genocide...or the kid pulling the trigger. In certain situations we have less "free will" than we think. I do agree that individual soldiers should be held accountable, but this doesn't solve the problem.

Soldiers are programed to kill, but also to exercise discipline and restraint. You act like our military trains people to be uncontrollable murdering machines. Yes I agree they are trained to kill, but most people have moral fiber. In order to kill innocent people, you have to be a little sick in the head. A rational person would question their actions before blindly killing someone. There are some psychos in the military (including sergeants, colonels, commanders, etc.). The sick people are usually the unstable individuals that slip through the recruitment office or the ones that snap during battle or trauma. There's WAAAYYYY too much generalization in your statement. If what you said were true, our whole military would be in disarray, don't you think.

Yes, there probably are soldiers in positions of superiority who are preaching hate and conditioning this type of behavior. But again, in the end it is the individuals own decision to murder an innocent person.
You are taking this individual and lumping the rest of the Marine Corp in with him. Do you really believe every Marine and their immediate superior think that it is okay to kill people the way this man did? Do you?

These men aren't child soldiers in Africa. If you want to talk about programming, now THAT's programming. These are grown !!* men who all have AT LEAST lived 18 years of their lives with the rest of the American population. They know the difference between right or wrong, even with another dude telling them to stab somebody for "time off". If they choose to do that, they aren't victims of the system- they're murderers and war criminals. There is no excuse for their behavior, none.

they are debriefed and counseling is made available. post war is very difficult to some. in every major city in the U.S. there are tons of veterans who have gone clinically crazy that we brush off as weirdo homeless people. it's a tuff adjustment.

Thats the type of "egging on" that goes on day in and day out. Like i said in my previous post, the soldiers are programmed. The sick twisted individuals that you think the system had the lapse of judgement in sending out there we're actually created by that very system. They didn't sign up at their local recruitment office as sick twisted individuals, no they were created.

Yes, there probably are soldiers in positions of superiority who are preaching hate and conditioning this type of behavior. But again, in the end it is the individuals own decision to murder an innocent person.
You are taking this individual and lumping the rest of the Marine Corp in with him. Do you really believe every Marine and their immediate superior think that it is okay to kill people the way this man did? Do you?

These men aren't child soldiers in Africa. If you want to talk about programming, now THAT's programming. These are grown !!* men who all have AT LEAST lived 18 years of their lives with the rest of the American population. They know the difference between right or wrong, even with another dude telling them to stab somebody for "time off". If they choose to do that, they aren't victims of the system- they're murderers and war criminals. There is no excuse for their behavior, none.

Well I have a take home final to turn in before graduation (yay me, p.s. Fight On) so I'm gonna try to stay off NT. If this thread is still alive I'll try to respond to any posts. Keep the discussion alive though folks, all opinions should be stated.
