Most ppl that got “legal” guns won’t ever let shots off in a real situation...They not in the mix with the cats that’s really shooting at each other but we need guns for “safety and protection” in this country apparently

Usually, having a gun for protection or as a deterrent doesn’t go how you think it is

People should be allowed to own guns legally

All these liberal states that have strict gun laws still have gun violence. Criminals have the upper hand because they don't care about the law.

People would think twice about shooting if there was a possibility their target would shoot back

Someone is less likely to break into someone's house if there was a possibility they would be shot at
Idk cuz living in GA showing me different...Looser gun laws down here but ATL cats LUV to run up in houses/cars with no regard and little consequences ...If anything the little gun laws benefit the racists here as can be seen by recent events

Is there a chance that despite having it for protection, it could serve no use in that situation? Of course.

But if god forbid in the middle of the night, I heard someone trying to break in, or something going on, I’d like my chances much more if I knew I was armed.

As for the first part. I hope I never have to let shots off in a real situation. I think any rational person would share that sentiment.

Heres a provoking question; If the ban on concealed carry - is / becomes- the status quo in the USA, Wouldn’t this highlight the uncivilized nature of rural and/or politically conservative communities? Their beliefs in many things including guns , run against the grain of progression in this country. It’s like Their the ones least likely to need guns but have too many of them. They fight to the death for guns and for what?

there’s a chapter in The Isis Papers on the importance of guns and the symbolism behind them for who you would call “rural and politically conservative communities” as well as their liberal counterparts.

I do not think guns themselves run counter to progress, but I do think using them offensively does

it’s wrong to frame it as a con v lib situation as there are leftist and left leaning organizations who strongly believe in arming the oppressed and vulnerable and I agree with them.

I have a conceptual disdain for them, and like many others, wish they had magically never been invented.

...but oh all right, I guess if everybody is gonna have one I´ll take one too thxmuch.
That's where I am, although I have never actually bought one. I've halfassed into the idea a few times but never followed through. I live in the South. Everyone has one. You have enough of those types looking to start some **** so they can use it "in self defense." You see security guards at the grocery store instead of having a standard security issue little pistol, bringing their own oversized banger from the house like something really about to pop off at Aldi's. They passed a Constitutional carry law where basically already lax gun laws got lax-er. If you have a pulse, you can pretty much get one. You have regular gun owners who are people wh own guns for whatever reason and the "strap an ar15 to my back and go to Golden Corral and the airport" and dare someone to say something to me types, especially when it passed they were going to the predominantly black parts of town posting videos talking **** because Rep Jason Lowe (D, OK) strongly opposed the legislation

Nothing wrong with a handgun for protection or a rifle for hunting...my problem comes in with semi-automatic weapons meant for war being owned by the common citizen.

As a teacher I shouldn't have to go through active-shooter trainings. After what happened at Sandy Hook and nothing changed I knew it didn't matter what happened guns aren't going anywhere.

As long as police/military can have guns then I think black people in America should have the right to own them, especially considering the history of this country.

Personally, I don't own any guns. I don't hunt/shoot targets and I can't seriously imagine taking someone's life if I was getting robbed/in a fight.

Like many have said, having a gun in those situations would probably make it worse.

I don’t get it in GA/Atlanta they LOVE pulling home invasions and running up in there with those guns laws so loose but in Texas if you try some monkey stuff like that 9/10 times whoever is trying to home invade ain’t making it out. Why are home invasions so rampant in the A?

Fozz Fozz where do you live where this is going on if you don’t mind me asking.

There are far too many out there in the US to effectively attempt to buy them back. I wish there was a way though. With that being the case, I see no issue with responsible adults having a shot gun or handgun in the home.

I've always wondered if **** went down near these dudes that carry ARs in public, if they would really work to protect and defend.

A friend recommended me to invest in an AR. IDK, man. I feel like if I had that in the house I'd feel like Rambo or something lol

Probably anti-gun since they've facilitated so much unnecessary death and suffering throughout modern history. Yes I understand other means would have and have been utilized to kill. Guns make it a layup to kill someone though.

But since I realize they're not going anywhere, an ideal scenario would be some type of reliable control measures because unfortunately we're the hot spot of the world when it comes to this type of violence.

Someone repped me in here, I forgot about this thread. Interesting seeing some of these takes given where things are just weeks later.
