i think that a lot of you are putting way too much emphasis on the coaching problem and not the players. yes, our coaching is horrible. however, it is also terrible if you know better, but yet still execute the same garbage. if the play call is bubble screen, but you have a WR on the opposite side cutting across the middle wide open, what are you gonna do? are you going with the covered screen anyway or make the adjustment?
the coaching may be ****, but the players are paid to play. they are paid to make the right decisions to win games. what does coaching have to do with drops or overthrown passes? if the players make all their catches in practice, but drop them in games, how is that on the coach? if Carr completes 100% of his passes in practice, but overthrows for 2 INTs in a game, how is that on the coach? if Seth fumbles the ball on the 5 yard line (or whatever it was), how is that the coaches fault? all three instances are solely on the player.
you say that the coaches aren't setting them up to succeed. if you tell Sean Smith to press cover his man, but he continues to back up 10 yards, how is that on the coach? you want KNJR to run on to the field and physically move him? i suggested using Belichick's method of benching players who fumble. apparently, that's a stupid idea, because we won't have any players left. well, if the players aren't held accountable, then what? they're just going to keep going about their way, because they know they're going to start/play/get paid/etc. anyway.
the fault of the coaches is the lack of applied discipline. even though the play calling, on both sides has been ******, the players should be able to adjust regardless. it irks me to not see Carr make more adjustments. our secondary, well we're screwed. we just don't have the talent. we don't blitz, because our corners can't cover anyone. KJ has to play up to defend the run, because our LBs are weak. Mack is the only real pass rusher we have, and he's always double teamed. our defense is expected to be ***. can't deny that one. but either Carr doesn't wanna upset Downing or what, because this dude hardly makes any adjustments.
